Story of King Bhagiratha and Ganga

King Bhagiratha does tapas to petition Lord Siva to allow Ganga to come to earth, but the earth cannot bear the torrential flow of water from heaven. Lord Siva catches Ganga in His hair, and from there she flows to earth.
