Bronze Crafting

There are 29 official steps in the making of a bronze sculpture, and dozens of craftsmen. After Holly Young completed the almost-a-year-long wax sculpting, she made molds and sent them to Colorado. There many hands went to work to create our Sri Ganapati Sthapati, master architect. Here a small part of the larger team gathers to celebrate the completion of the work.

The Sun Sets Over Kauai Aadheenam

Last night we had an incredible sunset, its radiant light only lasting a few minutes. Just like a flower, its impermanence adds to its beauty.

Media Studio Renovation

Today a team of monks and taskforcers and karma yogis teamed up to strip the Media Studio in readiness for the new renovation. The main accomplishments were the amazingly energetic 92-minute removal of the old flooring and the disaaaembly of the Pine Room seen in this photo behind the wall on the left. In the days ahead the ceiling will come down.

Sharpening chisels

Our master sculptress, holly Young, is busy on the Big Island. Today she sent us photos of the completed life-size wax showing an Iraivan silpi sharpening a mild-steel chisel. These chisels last about 5-7 minutes before the hard granite dulls them beyond use. So hundreds need to be sharpened ever two days. Here Manikandan is about to strike the blow on the red-hot and malleable end of the chisel. Here a brick is shown underneath, but in real life it is a solid piece of metal. This is the third in the series of nine sculptures that will tell the story of how Iraivan Temple was envisioned, designed and built.

A New Phase Begins

Today the monks begin their phase with a homa fire. Communing with the inner worlds is an integral part of their lives. The Gods and devas lend help in everything, assisting the monks with their seva, giving them insights and energizing their meditations

Milling Progress

The woodshop continues to be bustling with activity, as our team fine tunes the wood elements for the ceiling of the new media studio. Here are some of the pieces, made from rainbow eucalyptus.
