Bodhinatha's Upadeshas: Peace, the Value of Temples and Monasteries

Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami

Bodhinatha’s Latest Upadeshas:“Temples, Monasteries, Peace” (June 22,2016)

A temple helps you be a more peaceful person, live more deeply inside and into our soul nature. Harmony in the home leads to greater tolerance in the community. The emanation of darshan from the aadheenam creates an inner vibration, radiates out, uplifts those who are connected to the monastery. And, their karmas go more smoothly.

Bodhinatha's Sun One Upadeshas (June 6, 2016)

Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami

Bodhinatha’s Latest Upadeshas:“Bondage: Anava, Karma, Maya” (June 6,2016)

Why aren’t we with God Siva? Bondage: anava, karma and maya. The law of karma is teaching us to understand the behavior which is conducive to the unfoldment of the soul. Anava makes us think we’re an individual, separate. Through positive experience, use it to accomplish, mature the soul. The sense of a Oneness eventually comes in. “..all are pervaded by love. But there is no all for you alone exist. All are you.”

Off to London!

Today Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami and Sannyasin Shanmuganathaswami left for a three week journey, primarily to the UK. As is customary many of the monks and local members gathered as Satguru left the monastery to offer a flower and wish him well in his travels. Swami Ramana Swaroopananda who is visiting was also there to bid him farewell, along with Brahmachari Dr Vrajvihari Sharan who coincidentally just arrived for a visit all the way from London.

Patanjali Yoga Sutra Class

Every few months Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami holds a Yoga Sutra class with our young Sadhaka. This afternoon Sadhaka's Nandinatha, Rajanatha, Mayuranatha, Jayanatha and Dayanatha all gathered in the Guru Temple with Satguru. Satguru continued their exploration of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras with comparisons to Gurudeva's teachings. The class included the intricacies of various types of Samadhi, such as samadhi with form (think savikalpa samadhi), whereby the observer, the observed and the act of observing coalesce into oneness, and samadhi without form (nirvikalpa samadhi) when awareness transcends even the highest experiences and dissolves in the timeless, spaceless, absolute Self. The class continued through a discussion of remolding the subconscious mind into the subsuperconscious mind and on into Patanjali's description of the five kleshas which bind the individual in ignorance. Two important kleshas deeply discussed were attachment and aversion, both of which can be equally binding forces in our lives. Attachment being the residue of positive experiences and aversion the result of negative ones. All in all a fun class for everyone. Om Namah Sivaya!

Bodhinatha's Latest Upadeshas:"Instinctive, Intellectual, Superconscious Mind" (May 30,2016)

The Hindu point of view. Everyone has a three-fold nature: instinctive, intellectual and superconscious. Everyone is a divine being. Everyone has the seed of divinity. See what phase of the mind we're in and practice controlling it. Once the instinctive mind is under control then we have to deal with the intellect. Temple worship, devotional worship is very helpful. Without God's grace, God's blessings, everything coming out from God, we couldn't do anything.

Be Content While Moving Forward

Today we present to you excerpts from Satguru's Sun One upadesha which he gave in Kadavul Hindu Temple on the morning of February 2, after the Siva homa was finished. Enjoy.

"You can't walk up a mountain straight unless you're a really strong person. You've got to take a winding path up, and we're born somewhere on this path. Say we're half-way. This is a simple example. We're half way up this path. It takes many lives to get all the way to the top. So, what do we want to do? We're not trying to race to the top. We're trying to move forward as much as our karma and dharma permit. We want to move forward and we want to be content in simply moving forward. Even when we move three steps forward.

"But, we want to be content that we move forward. We don't want to be frustrated that we didn't get to the top. That's not understood. Some people frustrate themselves in trying to make too much progress, then they become discontent in the present instead of just accepting everything that is is where you should be.

"We're trying to move forward on the path toward moksha with the consciousness that it usually takes many lives. And we want to be content in that moving forward. We need to be content with however long it'll take us to make it. And as Gurudeva says, ‘enjoy the journey.'"

Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami reads his editorial from the July/August/September 2016 edition of Hinduism Today magazine. "It is easy to talk high philosophy in Hinduism, 'man is God,' 'we are divine,' it is easy to say profound things...however to put these principles into practice to the extent that we really are a more spiritual person, that is the challenge. And that, is what we will explore here."

On the Road Again!

Today Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami, Sannyasin Shanmuganathaswami and Sannyasin Siddhanathaswami packed their luggage and headed for the airport. The traveling team is headed to California, Vancouver, Victoria, Chicago and Syracuse on a whirlwind two-week trip. Om Namah Sivaya
