Good and Evil, an Upadesha by Satguru

Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami expands on material from our new publication “Path to Siva.” Here Satguru discusses lesson 25, covering our Saivite Hindu view of Evil, Hell and Sin.

Bodhinatha Comments on Evil, Hell and Sin – The Hindu View

Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami

What About Evil, Hell and Sin, Path to Siva, Lesson 25 (May 20,2017)

Hindus believe in each individual as a soul, a divine being who is inherently good. We all have a threefold nature: instinctive, intellectual, intuitive. Develop the intuitive/spiritual/soul nature with compassion, devotion, penance. Use the intellect to help subdue the instinctive mind. Guilt is not a part of Hinduism. There is no eternal hell. You have a continuity of consciousness when you transition to the inner worlds. There is no devil, but there are mischievous “asuras.”

Bodhinatha Bhashya, Are Souls and World Essentially Good?

Satguru Bodhinatha Veylaswami

Bodhinatha’s Latest Upadeshas – What Is the Nature of Our Sould
Are
Souls and World Essentially Good, Path to Siva Lesson 24 (May 12,2017)

“The world does contain suffering; it’s this way for a reason. If the world was perfect why would we want to transcend it? We’re not all in the same place in consciousness. We don’t divide the world into good and bad. Everyone is divine on the inside. The soul is pure actinic energy flowing through the seven chakras below and the six chakras above the muladhara. Hindu society is designed to help everybody come up in consciousness. It takes many lives.

Bodhinatha Comments on the Three Bonds, Sun One Upadesha

Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami

Bodhinatha’s Latest Upadeshas – Why Are We Not All-Knowing? Three Bonds
Path to Siva, Lesson 23 Commentary (May 04, 2017)

The three bonds/pashas, given by Lord Siva: karma, maya and anava, are there to mature the soul. At first it is natural for the soul to be totally involved in the world to gain experience through Siva’s veiling grace/tirodhana shakti. As we eventually learn to exercise self control, over many lifetimes, God Siva grants His revealing grace/anugraha shakti. We claim our infinity, our oneness with God.

Life is Art

An artist friend of Vani Chenganna painted one of our church shishya, Ramai Santhirapala as a gift organized by the whole Europe satsang. The painting depicts Ramai receiving a final flower blessing from Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami. This moment begins the Arul Shishya dedication! We found the photo from the event by happenstance and thought it fun to post the juxtaposition. Enjoy.

What Is the Nature of Our Soul

Bodhinatha's Latest Upadesha

What Is the Nature of Our Soul
Path to Siva, Lesson 22(April 27,2017)

"The essence of the soul is Pure Consciousness and Absolute Reality." There are three bodies, shariras, five sheaths, koshas, an inner and an outer aura. The chakras are windows of consciousness. We can find That which has never changed, then we're deep within the soul. That's a good place to look for Parasiva.

Scriptures; the Tirukural; Three Worlds and Conquering Ego with Devotion

Don't miss Satguru Bodhinatha latest talks on Chapters 20 and 21 of the Path to Siva.

Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami

Bodhinatha's Latest Upadeshas - Our Scriptures; the Tirukural; Three Worlds and Surrendering Ego Through Devotion
" Path to Siva, Lesson 20 - Our Saivite Scriptures" (March 22,2017) " Path to Siva, Lesson 21 - Three Worlds; Conquer Ego Through Devotion" (April 13,2017)

Within our Saiva Siddhanta Holy Scriptures the Saiva Agamas explain the basis of temple ceremonies and worship plus yoga and jnana. The Tirukural was considered by Gurudeva to be "the most accessible and relevant sacred text." In it are practical and helpful guidelines for our conduct in every day life. The point of family life is to gain steady improvement, forever, in self control in the midst of responsibilities in the fulfillment of family dharma. Meanwhile, not taking detachment too far but taking it in the sense of spiritually looking for happiness, not outside in other people or possessions, the world, but inside ourselves and then sharing it with family and friends. "We regard the writings of our satgurus as scripture."

Path to Siva, Lesson 20
Tirukural, Introduction and Contents

Tirukural, Chapter 15 Possession of Self-Control

"The temple enables us to feel the presence of God, Gods and devas." We use our inner eyes to see what's going on in the temple, the three worlds. In the temple we're being good dvaitists in the dimfi perspective, focused in bhakti upon God Siva. In meditation we're monists, in the shumif perspective. We claim our oneness with Siva, Sivoham, I am Siva. In surrender, shrinking the ego through devotion, we have a realization that we're not the doer, that Siva is doing it all. Siva's energy comes through our soul.

Moola Mantra Ganapati Homa

A Moola Mantra Ganapati Homa was held on the 8th of April, 2017 at Sri Selva Vinayagar Temple, Klang, Malaysia. This Homa was a special request by Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami who also presided the event. Coordinated by Saiva Siddhanta Church's Malaysia Mission, the event was sponsored by both Kauai Aadheenam and the Sree Selva Vinayagar Temple.

Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami and Shanmuganathaswami were lovingly welcomed by the temple's chief priest and hundreds of devotees. They were both paraded around the temple before being seated in front of the Homa Kundam (homa pit). The beautiful Homa Kundam was specially constructed for this event with red bricks which were mortared and plastered with turmeric paste.

During the Homa, devotees were guided to do Kara Nyasa and Anga Nyasa (Purification Rites), followed by chanting of Ganesha's Moola (Root) Mantra, 1,008 times. The objective, according to chief priest Siva Sri Yogeswara Sivachariyar, is to invoke Lord Ganesha within our own body, thus with His presence we walk the path of Dharma, achieving Buddhi and Siddhi.

Various sacred substances were offered into the homa pit; the fire being Lord Ganesha and His Ganas receiving the sacred substances. Fruits, 108 lotus flowers, piles of durva grass, herbs, grains, ghee and royal clothing etc were offered to Lord Ganesha via the roaring homa flame.

More than 400 devotees attended the homa, filling the temple to capacity.

The Homa was conducted by a total of 7 priests.
Head Priest is Sivagama Ratnam, Sri Vidya Ganapati Upasagar, Esana Sivam R. Yogeswara Sivachariyar. He is also the President of Malaysia Hindu Foundation.
He was assisted by Sivasri Nandakumar Gurukal, Muthukumar Gurukal, Kalaiselvam Archakar, and Viswanathan Archakar. Vedic chants for the Homa was sung by Venkadesa Shastri from Tanjavur, Tamil Nadu and Kannan Shastri from Sri Mahamariamman Temple, KL

After the Homa, Devaram and Natchintanai were sung by the mission children. Bodhinatha honored the temple president Mr. NT Raaman and all the priests who conducted the Homa. He also launched and blessed the "9 Beliefs of Hinduism" poster project headed by Dr.Maruthu Dharmalingam. The posters, in tamil and english (A1 sized) which were later mounted at the entrance of the rajagopuram as well as A4 sized brochures (for distribution to devotees) were donated to the temple.

Satguru Bodhinatha blessed all the devotees who were also given gifts of Know Thyself' and Yoga's forgotten foundation' books. The event was concluded with a sumptuous vegetarian lunch.

It was a rare event, where devotees were soaked by blessings of Ganesha and Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami. Jai Ganesha. Jai Satguru.
