“When a situation comes up, I observe how the conscious mind looks at it. Then I ask how my subconscious would see it. Pondering further, I inquire how my subsuperconscious relates to it; then, how my superconscious views it. Through this process I get a clear picture of what happened, how it happened and if I should take it seriously. You might react strongly to a happening, but when you look closely you see it wasn’t much to be concerned about. It is just the subconscious reacting, so you forget it. The subconscious was the problem. It is your subsuperconscious, intuitive understanding that makes such judgments.”

Members and guests enjoying their dinner after Satsang…this is Narayanan Venkatakrishnan from Madras who helped so much with the last Innersearch. It just so happened he had the good karma to have a job take him to Malaysia, just when Bodhinatha was passing through.

Bidding farewell to Satguru & Saravananathaswami for the day….

More reports will be coming with photos, but we have this from Bodhinatha about the important events of the 12th:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Morning event was at the Kottu Malai Pillaiyar temple. This temple is interesting and powerful. The actual murthi is a bit small but when you stand there and worship you have the feeling that in the inner worlds Ganesha is a hundred feet tall and you are standing inside of Him. A powerful shakti indeed. Samaya Diksha given for four sishya at the temple plus talk and vibhuti prasadam. It turned out the initiation was during Ashlesha nakshatra, Yogaswami’s nakshatra observance, so that was extra auspicious.
Then we had lunch with the Kulapati families and a few others.
Lots of afternoon meetings at the hotel, so we made good use of our suite space, mainly young couples.
Evening event was at Bukit Gasing Temple where we blessed the stupi metal piece for their Dakshinamurthy shrine and watched it be installed. The murthi will be installed on the 16th. Talk and vibhuti darshan.
It was a busy and wonderful day for sure.
Om Namasivaya, Bodhinatha
At the Aadheenam Today
Today is the last day of this phase… Sunday with clear weather. We had over 60 visitors for the weekly tour.
Here is Sannyasin Arumugaswami with Dr. Inam Rahman, MD who is running for Congress for Hawaii District No 2. which includes the island of Kauai. Originally from Pakistan, he now lives in Honolulu, married to a Hawaii lady and is very active in the field of providing community health care. He heard about our temple and was awestruck by what he saw here.
A huge tour day crowd. Sadhaka Dandapani said they were all bright, polite, and asked so many intelligent questions.
Collecting Rudraksha beads.
~~~~~~~~~~
What’s Happening?

Well the Ganapati Kulam does their sharing on Sun 5 each phase, which is today… so here’s a small list of what they are doing.

Palaniswami has been working with the process of optical character recognition for a lot of documents for Saiva Siddhanta Church and many of our old manuscripts, which have all been turned into searchable PDF’s. He’s organized these on our server…

Kumarswami has been working hard on a new edition of Saiva Dharma Shastras which is being updated to reflect changes that have occurred these past few years. Its a lot of tedious work taking the old files from Quark Express and putting them into InDesign.

Arumugaswami has been working on Hinduism Today articles, this week focusing on a story from Toronto about the community there… He also shared news of the “plant corn” initiative he has going on Himalayan Acres across the river…

Natarajnathaswami has been working on many Hinduism Today articles.

Sivakatirswami has been continuing on putting the new color edition of Dancing with Siva on the web, daily TAKA, and the massive project of consolidating all web content from our servers in Hawaii and San Diego to the new server in Connecticut.

Yogi Japendranatha has been working on his Hinduism Today articles and also on some advanced web work for the future, and also keeping up our network systems.

One man said, “You know, I was not very inspired about the idea of wasting time going to visit a Hindu Monastery, but my wife convinced me. And now this has been the highlight of our whole stay on Kauai. We did every thing, helicopter, boat rides, visited the scenic spots. But there is nothing to compare to what you have here!”

Our Iraivan carving site manager and long-time devotee of Gurudeva, Jiva Rajasankara, has been working hard this past month to get this sign ready in time for Bodhinatha’s visit to Mauritius, which happens in a couple of days. The sign is inspired by Gurudeva’s similar signs, six of them, which now stand all around the island of Kauai, a gift from Gurudeva to the spirit of the island he loved so. The Kauai signs say “One Island, Many Peoples, All Kauaians” and “Aloha: it’s the spirit of Kauai”

When devotee Manon Mardemootoo visited Kauai a couple of years back and saw these 3-foot by 6-foot rose granite signs, he thought how wonderful it would be to make a similar gift to his nation-island of Mauritius. Bodhinatha responded by having six signs made in Bangalore, of which this is the first. In French it says, “One Island, Many Peoples, All Mauritians” and like the Kauai signs it is meant to promote and strengthen unity in diversity in this nation which is mostly Hindu.

Bodhinatha will present the gifts officially to the President of Mauritius in a few days. So TAKA visitors get a sneak preview of that meeting.

Date: January031999
Title: Sadhana of Creating Positive Plans
Category: The Guru
Duration: 9 min., 1 second
Date Given: January 3, 1999

Today at Kauai Adheenam, January 3rd. Greetings to our cyberspacers, who have come to our cyberspace ashram. Welcome! The doors were open; you came in and here is the news.

Today, we are beginning a three-day festival. Families and devotees and students of Himalayan Academy and members of Saiva Siddhanta Church have all come to celebrate ‘Happy Birthday to me’! Happy Birthday to me!! Physically, 72 years of age by the western calender but 73 by the Asian way of looking at it, because my first birthday was the day I was born. Is anything going to change as far as I am concerned? No way can it change. We’re going on to better and best.

We have two new sadhaka taking vows today. They have been sitting by our wall very sincerely, Nilakantha and Jivananda. They will become Saiva sadhaka and the devas at the walls have blessed them. Another group of sadhaka and yogis are renewing their two-year vows today also. The vows are given for two years. They can be renewed or not renewed. It is up to the individual or to the entire group of us.

We want to welcome Easvan Param and Toshadeva from California, who have come for task force. Toshadeva will be here for two months. Easvan Param put in the new lighting system of our 108 ‘tandavams’ in Kadavul temple. Thank you very much.

You are probably asking what are the ‘tandavas’? Lord Siva is a dancer, who created the Universe. He created it out of Himself through dance, made of 108 postures. They are traditional South Indian postures, and we have all 108 at the Kadavul Hindu Temple and they are beautiful. And, thanks to Easvan Param; now we can see them. They are beautifully lighted. 1999, Happy New Year; plan for the Year ahead. I want you to sit down. Here is something you have to do. Here is another Sadhana. I know we have made lists for three days, three kinds of lists. I want you to sit down. In ten minutes, I want you to get positive. I want you to lift your energy up into your head. Take a breath and feel positive. Take a piece of paper and I want you to write down all the positive things you are going to do for every month of 1999. Do it all in ten minutes. Let your superconscious mind, your intuition, your divine mind, your still, small voice. Listen to it and make it loud. Write down all the positive things you are going to do. You are drawing on your creative energies, your prana. Your creative energies are coming down for a better life for you and those who you love, and in your sphere of influence.

Now, here is something to not do. As creation takes its time before it manifests, do not destroy your creation through negative thinking. Don’t destroy your creations through doubt. Don’t destroy your creations through feeling unable to continue to create. Old people think, “What will they say about me?”

Go ahead and realize that if it is a positive creation for the good of yourself and others, not only for the good of yourself but for others too. That is important to remember; that everyone will help you. The devas will help you. The Gods will help you. I will help you. Everyone will get behind it later. If you begin to feel negative, use this affirmation: I can, I will, I am able. I can, I will, I am able. I can, I will, I am able to fulfill the positive affirmations and plans that I have made for 1999. January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, and December. Come the end of December, look back over your life. You will be proud of yourself and I’ll be proud of you too. It means a lot to be proud of yourself. Now, I think we are coming into some questions. Oh, here’s a wonderful question! “Is it true that the Satguru must reincarnate over and over and over and over and over until all of his disciples reach the portals of liberation and are liberated?

Ours and all satgurus is a successorship. It is my duty to turn over all of my disciples, whether they have realized it or not to my successor, and then to his successor and then to his successor. Because the guru doesn’t do it for you. You have got to do it for yourself. The Guru points the way. The Guru guides you. The Guru protects you. The Guru keeps you on the right path but he is not a magic pill. You have to live. You have to work. You have to encounter your karmas. If you’ve been a very bad boy, you have to learn to be a very good boy by learning how bad you were, correcting the matter through what we call penance or prayaschitta, and then get on with your life.

So, the system is that I have to be on a lower level plane, until my successor appoints a successor and finishes his tenure on Earth. Then he has to be on that lower level plane until his successor finishes his tenure on Earth and so forth like that. Therefore, it is an ever building, ever passing on of the information, ever passing on of the siddhis, ever passing on of the wonderful life of the Guru-disciple relationship. But nobody is going to do it for you, if that is what your thinking. You have to do it for yourself.

The Guru gives the map, explains the destination. You’ve got to get in that car and drive to that destination. He will protect you psychically, spiritually, physically the best that he can, but you are the driver. Always remember that. There are no magic elements involved other than making you face your negative self. Bring forward your positive self and realize your divine Self beyond all concepts of the mind. Timelessness, formlessness, spacelessness; get the idea?

Thank you for the very nice question. You, wherever you are. We couldn’t tell the country from your e-mail, but ask another one if this is not clear.

Aum Namah Sivaya.

“The Hindu’s knowledge of reincarnation gives him the hope of attaining a future birth and in that birth making further progress toward the perfection that he intuitively knows is his atman, his soul. He is working in this life to gain enough good merit, enough punya, to deserve welcome into a fine religious family as a good soul that will not upset the family but add to its love and harmony and productivity. That is one aim ever on the mind of the devout Hindu, to live well that he may live even more perfectly in a future life on this planet. That is our aim; and our other beliefs, our accumulated knowledge and the many facets of our religion, give us the strength and the wisdom to believe in such a far-reaching way, to look beyond the immediate day-to-day concerns into our ultimate objective, which is realization and liberation, moksha.”

Title: How to Achieve Goals and Duties
Category: Change and Transformation
Duration: 6 min., 16 seconds
Date Given: May_12_1999
Given By: Gurudeva

Today at Kauai Aadheenam. May 12, 1999.

Greetings, everyone in cyberspace! Today, I am on my way to the County Council of Kauai. To open their meeting with a beautiful blessing, we are taking our priest Tyaganatha with us, in his dress of a traditional garb of a turban and dhoti and vibhuti to give a Sanskrit chant to empower the County leaders to do what they have to do to keep this Garden Island nice and safe for us to live on.

We have a question here, from Neeraj, a reader of TAKA. We are very happy that you have communicated with us. Neeraj says, he knows what he has to do and what is expected of him, has goals and objectives in his mind but has difficulty in motivating himself to achieve these goals. He sleeps a lot, eats the wrong food, builds up a lot of anger on the inside. He says, “I know my duties but I cannot carry them out properly. How can I overcome this?”

Well, Neeraj, speaking to you directly and to many others who are tuning in to cyberspace from, at least I would say, ten countries, perhaps your goals and objectives are not your own. Quite often, Asian young people get forced into a position and are given choices like “You can be a computer engineer or a computer engineer or a computer engineer. Those are your three choices.” Or, “a doctor or a doctor or a doctor.”

Is that life on planet Earth? No! Perhaps, you were born to be a great artist. Perhaps, you were born to sing and inspire and uplift people. Perhaps, you were born to express yourself the way you want to express yourself and earn your living in the way you want to earn your living. The healthiest, most productive and easiest, according to the Sanatana Dharma tradition, is to follow the profession of your father. The girl follows the profession of her mother. Hopefully, it is the housewife, living at home and raising up the next generation in dharma, so that they won’t make mistakes and be a burden on society, on the community and the world at large, by creating more unwanted karmas in this life because of lack of parental control and supervision.

I know many young people are beaten by their parents to attain high grades and suddenly they commit suicide. They cannot stand the pressure.

Why aren’t you interested in what you are doing? Because, obviously, you shouldn’t be doing it. When we are enthused and driven by our soul to accomplish what we want to accomplish, we are up in the morning early, we are working late, we are eating the right foods, we have love for everyone. We have no fight going on, on the inside of us.

Neeraj, I hope this helps and all of you out there being forced into doing something that is not your nature to do, think about it. Don’t allow yourself to be forced into a marriage. Don’t allow yourself to be forced into an occupation simply because of some family values. It is unfair, unwise, unhealthy and you won’t be happy for the rest of your life. I know many, many people who can testify to this gnawing unhappiness and sadness in doing something their parents forced them into doing it, be it a profession, whatever it may be. Their own soul(, they are driven) will drive them to express itself and earn its living in its own way.

We have a long question here from Sadhunathan Nadesan. Please give me a telephone call at the Himalayan Complex to talk about today.

When we have dreams of Gods and devas and holy people, it is because our soul is trying to guide us into the right path and dharma. Often, we have fallen off the path and dharma, into negative feelings and emotions. The soul itself is coming forward to help pull us back to that path.

This is an answer to another question that came in on email. Thank you, everyone, for your beautiful questions. If I am giving the right answers, please write and tell me that I gave the right answer and it was very helpful to you.

I am not suggesting that you disrespect your parents but I am suggesting that you respect yourself.

We’ll be back again tomorrow in our cyberspace ashram, looking out through your computer screen, having your darshan as you are looking at my darshan as we communicate through cyberspace.

And, now the beautiful languages – French, Tamil and Malay.

Aum Namah Sivaya!

“Arjava could well be interpreted as simplicity, as many commentators have done. It is easier to remember the truth than remember lies–white lies, gray lies or black lies. It is easier to be straightforward than conniving and deceptive, dishonest. A simple life is an honest life. An honest life is a simple life. When our wants which produce our needs are simple, there is no need to be deceptive or participate in wrongdoing. It’s as simple as that. Arjava means not complicating things, not ramifying concerns and anxieties. This is to say, when a situation occurs, handle the situation within the situation itself. Don’t use the emotion involved in the situation to motivate or manipulate for personal gain in another situation. Don’t owe people favors, and don’t allow people to owe you favors. Don’t promise what you can’t deliver, and do deliver what you promise. This is the Sanatana Dharma way. If the neo-Indian religion is teaching differently, pay no attention. It is all political, and it has no kinship to dharma.” –Gurudeva

Bodhinatha and Saravananathaswami are very busy in Malaysia. No photos arrived today, though Bodhinatha sends this short note early this morning:

“Good morning from Penang. It is five AM September 11th for us and 11 AM September 10th at the Aadheenam, a bit confusing time difference still. Quite a few hundred devotees at the Murugan temple last night, Thanabalan said they fed 800-900. Off to a good temple start. Devika danced two items quite well for everyone.”

Title: Hindu Hospitality
Category: Family
Duration: 3 min., 6 seconds
Date Given: March 03, 1999
Given By: Gurudeva

Today at Kauai Aadheenam. March 3.

We had a wonderful two-day retreat and a beautiful fire-puja this morning, invoking Lord Hanuman for the creation of the foundation of Iraivan Temple.

We have guests today from Hyderabad, India and other Hindu guests from Dallas, Texas. Another guest, a lovely couple from Austria, travelled a long way to come to Kauai Aadheenam. You don’t have to travel so far, sitting at the computer, receiving our hospitality. Our doors are open.

What is hospitality in the Hindu framework? It is that the guest is God. The spirit of energy flowing to the guest is the same spirit of energy exactly as in the household. A righteous household that worships every morning together as a one family is like a temple and guests coming are like deities, the devas, coming to the temple.

There are many dysfunctional families in the world today. What is a dysfunctional family? A dysfunctional family is a family that has no home, even if it is a million-dollar house. It takes a lot to turn that house into a home.

A home is a place where the mother is there. A home is a place where the father comes home a little early to be with his family, not working a little late so he can avoid his family. Not where he comes home, sits down in front of the television while eating his dinner. The kids are running here and there. Mother comes home, she is also tired, and is yelling at the kids. Many million-dollar homes are just houses like a big hotel lobby, totally impersonal. The Guest is not God in those homes. The guest is an intruder.

Think about your home. Is the guest God? And, is it a home or a house? What kind of vibration does it actually have? It takes a lot to make a house a home and you can never make a hotel-lobby into a home. Think about it.

We’ll be back again tomorrow.

Today’s the last day of the phase so it was tour day again. About 40 people turned up this morning for the 90 minute tour through our grounds.

Here is Sadhaka Dandapani our tour guide.

We have been getting an ever increasing number of guests on our tour days since the local guide books mentioned that we are one of the best sights to see on Kauai.

All the guests today were from the mainland.

Cheryl Carter and her daughter Katharine who are visiting from San Francisco were among our guests this morning. Cheryl had met Gurudeva in September 2001 and on this trip to Kauai she decided to bring her daughter along. Gurudeva always encouraged devotees to hug the healing rudraksha trees.

Today at Kauai Aadheenam. It is February 25 and greetings to everyone in cyberspace! Our ashram doors are open.

We hear from Langer in Luxembourg, who wants to know how he can help his suffering father.

Well, Langer, we always advice Ayurveda as the panacea for all ailments. It works very, very slowly and it is better if you start it when you are healthy than when you really become ill. But, anytime is fine and it works very well with the chemical medicines that the doctors are giving out nowadays. But, one thing about Ayurvedic medicine. It is herbal, and has no side-effects. So, see what you can do about Daddy and we hope he feels better soon.

Damara from Southern California is asking if her 5-year old grand-daughter can go. Well, we do have a discount of $700 for children if they are under twelve, I believe. Welcome aboard, little girl! We’ll enjoy having you with us.

Today, we had some lovely guests, all the way from Boston. They are on pilgrimage here, having been readers of ‘Hinduism Today’. We had other guests all the way from Anchorage, Alaska who made the pilgrimage today. A lot of people come day after day after day and we are so happy to see them.

‘Hinduism Today’ is going out the door in two more days to the printer. We are working very hard finishing up the last-minute, the last-minute editing so it is just right and it is inspiring to each and everyone of you to read. If you haven’t seen ‘Hinduism Today’ yet, it is a beautiful international magazine, which our cyberspace ashram puts out and we will be very, very happy to send you two/three complimentary copies to get you started, observing the great Hindu Renaissance going on in the last fifty years, gaining speed all the time.

Hinduism is a wonderful religion because it teaches you about you. It teaches that God is inside of you and permeates every atom of the Universe. It teaches about the five states of mind, the three phases of the mind – instinctive, intellectual, super-conscious. It teaches about karma and makes each individual responsible for his own acts. Everything that we do is involving karma, every action is karma. Karma means action. It is a Sanskrit word that has been adopted into most of the English dictionaries now, along with pundit and mantra.

Look into Hinduism if you are discontent with your religion. Or, if you are not religious at all, you are off to a very good start because all Hindus are pagans and many of them started as “heathens,” like maybe yourself. So, get on board the oldest religion in the world, with the oldest scripture in the world, six to eight thousand years old. Nobody knows quite how old. But, a fantastic society must have preceded the Vedic era to be able to produce such great souls that have articulated these many, many thousands of verses so well that they have lasted up to the present day.

Well, you are all welcome to join me on a cruise from Vancouver Canada, to Anchorage, Alaska where we are installing the first Ganesha for a temple coming up in that area of the country. It will be the first Hindu Temple in the state of Alaska. The cruise will be for seven days and we will be having seminars, round-circles, discussions, self-inquiry, investigation and we hope when we get off the ship in anchorage, we will have a new identity and we will look at ourselves with new appreciation for who we really are.

Tune in again tomorrow to cyberspace ashram at Kauai Aadheenam on the Garden Island of Kauai. Blessings flowing to each and everyone.

Aum Namah Sivaya!

“The best thing to do when you begin meditation is to live in a good environment, among good people. Meditate alone and don’t talk about it to anyone except the person who is helping you on the path. Do it inconspicuously, privately. It’s an inner process, so it should be performed alone. Then only inner things will happen to you, and your outer life will become better and better and better. You’ll get into a blissful flow with life–a perfect timing in your outer life. You will find yourself standing in the right place at the right time, every day. You will be in the energy flow with life, guided by your intuition. All the wonderful things that you should be experiencing on this planet will begin to come to you. ” — Gurudeva

Welcome to the Spiritual Park! Here are a few pictures to help you get a feeling for our lovely center in Mauritius.

You are now at the main gate of the Park. At the far end leading to the Ganesha Mandapam the path is now being covered with rocks and gravel to make it nicer to walk on especially on rainy days.

The lower thatched roof of the Ganesha Mandapam is among the trees planted around which are now growing tall.

Aum Shri Ganeshaya Namah! Visitors coming to the Park never miss to worship this little murthi just a few feet from the Ganesha wooden bridge that leads to the Mandapam.

The swimming pool just at the back of the main offices building is now empty and plans are for now to cover it for some other uses.

Two smart visitors…. They have heard about the Park and are visiting it for the first time. They are getting married soon and have come to seek Lord Ganesha’s Blessings.

This is a group of young ladies working in Mauritius under contract. They are all from Shri Lanka and the Spiritual Park has become their main place of worship on the island.

A happy daughter and mother… It is their first visit to the Park and are very impressed that such a place could exist so close to Triolet where they live.

The Algoo family from Grand Gaube. Mr. Algoo, now retired, was a well known trade unionist and social worker of the island.

The Raj family from Belle Vue Maurel a village close to La Pointe.

They are new visitors to the Park and everyone enjoyed in the Sanjay Mohabeer family their visit.

A few youth leaders of the Sai Baba centre from Curepipe….

Giradevi Canagasaby from Rivire du Rempart

Ulasha Valayten from Flacq, daughter of Kulapati Valayten

Ireyven Bodiroddy is also from Flacq and is attending the Saivite Hindu religion class at the Park.

Gurudeva holds up a sheet with the 12 Mamsane which are basic meditations outlined in the Shum language that are used, one for each month of the year. These are carved into the pillars of Iraivan, providing pilgrims meditations whenever they come. Here is one example:

The Four States of Being meditation:

“law” — the physical body, the external five senses, the conscious mind.

“lawm” — the subconscious, astral, emotional state of being, magnetic forces between people and people and things.

“lawf” — the superconscious, sub-superconscious state of being of living with the soul nature shining through.

“lawmf” — the state of being after Self Realization has occured when the soul body is in a sense “born” and comes to the forefront of the nature… This is the state of God Realized souls like Gurudeva and Yogaswami.

This simple meditation outlines for the intellect and the subconscious the path that we are all on, puts before us the goal of life and helps us to be self aware of where we are in consciousness during the day.

Yogaswami sang:

“The sight of the Guru grants such insight, Lo!
In the sunrise of the self, peace pervades.”

It’s another quiet day on the outside at the Aadheenam. The Pilliyar Kulam gave their phasely report at lunch. Renovation and construction are in the air as the work on the re-roofing of the Aadheenam continues along with new roofs for some of the publications containers we have to store our books and Jnana Dana literature. The October issue of Hinduism Today is now shipping and you will see your copy soon. We reprinted 20,000 copies of the Insight Section, called “Visiting a Hindu Temple,” as Bodhinatha is wanting to respond to the repeated requests for materials for children. The outreach work done by the teams at the various conferences is bearing fruit as we are mailing out packages of literature to everyone who signed up at those conferences, about 1000 or more people who did not know us before will be getting a copy of Hinduism Today, Island Temple, Ten Questions, Four Denominations of Hinduism.

Today at Kauai Aadheenam. Today is December 6, Sunday here on the beautiful Garden Island of Kauai.

We have a pilgrim here from Texas who has been listening to ‘Today at Kauai Aadheenam’ and ‘Merging with Siva’, the daily lessons. He is an engineer, a middle-aged gentleman, married. He said, “Here I am. I have come on pilgrimage. I was so inspired listening to you, Gurudeva, give these daily talks, reading ‘Merging with Siva’. I could not help myself. I got on an airplane and am here for three days.” Walking the beautiful lands, finding his inner self.

We are all here on Earth to find our inner self. We all know that there is enough of our outer selves. It is in abundance. Television, cement jungles, homes in disarray, contention, argument, deception. This does not occur within nature and our 51 acres here at Kauai Aadheenam is all nature. We live in a jungle. We are growing a jungle and in the jungle you can find no deception, you can find no argument. One tree does not argue with another tree. You can sense Siva’s ever-present, all-pervading force in plants, animals, birds, here and there and everywhere. If you were to look and try to find a place where Siva isn’t, it would be impossible.

Lots of wind and rain today. We had a beautiful fire puja to create the foundation of Iraivan Temple and each time we hold this ceremony, it rains.

Natyam Thondunatha is transferred to our Pillaiyar Kulam, which is the Kulam for raising funds and for a careful expenditure of those funds.

A very important day too, because Surya Kumar and Ford Graphics each sent $25,000 yesterday which is $50,000 in all, for the foundation of Iraivan Temple and we are half-way there in cash! A few more $25,000 checks and boom-dunk, the foundation of Iraivan Temple will be poured. A 3-foot slab about a 100 feet long and about 40 or 50 feet wide. Think of it. 100 cement trucks and it must be poured in one day.

I gave a talk this morning to the congregation about – don’t go into lethargy in religious life and think God and the devas and the Gods are going to do everything for you, simply because you ask. You yourself have to put out energy. You yourself have to put out willpower to fulfill your destiny and then the Gods, the devas, the angels, the inner-plane beings and also outer-plane beings who are not thinking about themselves will turn their head around and seeing your efforts will help you on your way.

Many people pray for money. Money is a commodity. It is merchandise and then they sit back and wait for it to come, for their business to improve without doing anything to improve their business. How about that! The business fails and they wonder why the Gods have forsaken them. My goodness! A certain amount of reason, certain amount of common sense and intelligence tells us that we too are devas, we too are angels, maybe potential Gods, who knows! But, here we are at this particular stage in our evolution and we have to do our part with greater effort to make our dreams manifest and of course, we need a clear concept of our future and, to succeed, the six P’s. Puja and prayer, a purpose, a plan, persistence and push. That is what, I said this morning, should have been there.

Well, today is another day we talk together in cyberspace and I am looking at you and you are looking at me. We are enjoying the feeling of darshan. We’ll see you again tomorrow, which will be December 7.

A very wonderful day to you and a wonderful night! Have beautiful dreams. The next lesson I am reading for you from ‘Merging with Siva’, the next four or five lessons, are all on dreams. You will enjoy them. You will get to know yourself better, that secret self that you experience when no one is watching.

Today’s TAKA is all about this sutra that Gurudeva wrote:

“All Siva’s devotees honor and revere the world around them as God’s creation and work for the protection of the Earth’s diversity and resources to achieve the goal of a secure, sustainable and lasting environment. Aum.”

A consulting group from Canada came to Kauai to visit the East Kauai Water Cooperative and discuss environmentally friendly hydro-power options for this area of the island (see below).

Bodhinatha has finished the booklet on Samaya (mantra) Diksha, which carefully details the sadhana of the first initiation. He will be taking this with him to Singapore, Malaysia and Mauritius to give out to all of those who have received their mantra diksha, and for those preparing.

TRAVEL NEWS! Bodhinatha’s next travel is September 8-23: Malaysia, Singapore and Mauritius. See travel page for more information.

Sannyasin Arumugaswami and a few of the other leaders of the East Kauai Water Cooperative host the consulting group who are under the auspices of the Federal Bureau of Reclamation, which has an interest in the preservation and usage of the incredible irrigation systems that have been created here on our small island.

Here are at the Wailua Reservoir, just 1 mile from the monastery. They see potential here for a small hydro electric plant.

We showed them the Iraivan Temple later and they really enjoyed the a wonderful rice and curry lunch at the monastery.

Here the reservoir drains out through a channel that could be connected to a small generator plant.

Of course we are blessed with plenty of water. Mount Waialeale is the rainiest spot on earth and the flow of water is “eternal.” Kauai now imports fuel oil to burn for electricity and a local renewable source will be a small contribution to the new world order of self-sustaining cultures.

Title: Temple Protocol. Mantra Revealed
Category: Hinduism and Tradition
Duration: 2 min., 48 seconds
Date Given: January_18_2000
Given By: Gurudeva

A question about temple protocol, comes from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. A young lady was here at our Kauai Aadheenam temple and found that the men are standing on the right and the ladies on the left, which indicates the ida and the pingala force. Because the temple itself is like a one-body, like a one human body, the psychic body. But, she returned to Malaysia and found that out there, they do just the opposite. The men are on the left and the ladies are on the right. She is wondering why this is.

The answer is: in those temples, they just got it turned all around. They don’t know the esoteric, ida and pingala, masculine and feminine force within our physical body and our astral body. So, tell them to contact me and we will send them some literature on it.

A cyberspace devotee has been given a mantram by a great Guru and been told, “Don’t tell this mantram to anyone. Keep it to yourself.” It was also written on a piece of paper. A while later, a relative found the piece of paper and the mantram and said, “What is this?” and he mentioned the mantram. Now, he is feeling a little bit guilty, wondering, “Should I get a new mantram? Should I confess this? What should I do?”

The answer is: it is traditional to give a mantram and tell the individual, “Don’t tell anybody.” But, that means, “Don’t teach this mantram to anyone. Don’t become the teacher of the mantram. It is just for you. Do it yourself.”

So, nothing wrong happened. You didn’t teach the mantram. It was a natural family happening. Someone found the paper and asked what is this. The person is not practising the mantram. You didn’t become an assistant guru or anything like that. So, don’t worry about it. Practice your mantram and benefit by the great Guru’s Grace. Your life will improve and improve and improve.

Date: December231998
Title: The Third Day of Pancha Ganapati
Category: Festivals and Sacraments
Duration: 4 min., 19 seconds
Date Given: December 23, 1998
Given by: Gurudeva

Today at Kauai Aadheenam. The Third Day of the Hindu festival Pancha Ganapati. At this Holiday Season of the year, we visit business associates, creating love and harmony, paying all bills and associating with merchants and the public at large, presenting gifts to our merchants who served us well and their employees. We give them gifts of appreciation.

Appreciation is a wonderful thing and this is the day of appreciation. And what did we do today? Today, two mathavasis got into the car and drove all over the island visiting all of our suppliers, our merchants and our friends and gave them little jars of honey. We call them ‘honey bears’ because the little jar looks like a little bear! We have 500 of them and we are distributing them here, there and every where. We are showing appreciation and thankfulness. And, all of our bills are paid, right up to this very moment. That is the third day of Pancha Ganapati. Tell you more about it tomorrow, but you will find it all in ‘Loving Ganesha’ on page 312.

Acharya Kumarswami gave a wonderful talk at Kadavul Temple to members of Saiva Siddhanta Church after the morning Puja. Everyone was elated. It was very, very nice.

Our work on the new book, ‘Weaver’s Wisdom’ , the Tirukural, is going along very, very nicely. We read about five or ten chapters a day. Very little editing takes place because the translations are beautiful and readable and of course, the writer wrote it 2200 years ago! We can’t talk to him about it!

Well, I will be seeing you again tomorrow. But, before that, let us just talk about gratitude. It is that time of year to be grateful. Unless you are grateful, you are just nobody. Gratitude comes from the soul. It is the quality of the soul. It is definitely not a quality of the intellect because many people attract attention to themselves by intellectually, subtlely criticizing other people and never showing any gratitude and appreciation. Only if they have money, they are accepted by those who want their money. That is a way to live on this planet Earth. That is the New Age. That is as low as you can get.There is a still more lowly thing that you could do. We could talk about that some other time.

Gratitude and appreciation is a higher soul quality. Today, tomorrow and the next day, tell everybody how grateful you are, even for their presence on Earth. If they have been unkind to you, give gifts, show gratitude. Don’t hold anything in your heart, hatred or resentment, because then that makes it an empty gift and it makes words, empty words. How is that for a sadhana today?

So, today at Kauai Aadheenam, December 23. See you again. I will be seeing you again tomorrow at Kauai Aadheenam, December 24. Enjoy this Holiday Season. Give of yourself. That is the greatest gift.

“When a seeker has unfolded to the power of giving, he doesn’t think about himself so much, because he is spontaneous. He is always looking for an opportunity to do something good for someone else. When someone has not unfolded into giving, he thinks about himself a great deal, and he calculates his giving, because he has to give in proportion to something else. And by giving in proportion to something else, he is creating his future limitation. He is saying “I am just this big, and I will always be just this big because that is as far as my consciousness can go, just that much. So, I will hold my consciousness within this grave.” But it doesn’t work that way. The consciousness is not like that, because by limiting your giving, by limiting your consciousness, as time goes by it will shrink. And it will shrink until you don’t know it. Your friends will notice, but you won’t. It will shrink and shrink and shrink. And that is one of the things your friends won’t tell you, that your consciousness has shrunk, and that you are not the same as you used to be.”

It’s been a very quiet day at the Aadheenam. A cool rain to bring down the high temperatures we’ve had this past week and quench the thirst of our flowers that were beginning to wilt in the heat.

In the news:

  • Some one in the UK has ordered 2000 copies of 10 Questions which we recently printed there.
  • With the hard work of Sheela Venkatakrishnan and Sadhunathan Nadesan we are closing in on a cherished goal: to have transcribed all of Gurudeva’s audio ever posted on the web… you may note transcriptions below that are from the “deep past” of TAKA…
  • Congratulations to Sadhaka Jivanandanatha of the Pilliyar Kulam who has crafted our new http://store.himalayanacademy.com which now lives on our own new server at the OLM data center in Connecticutt, USA.
  • Preparations are underway for Bodhinatha’s next trip to Asia in a few weeks.
  • Libraries have discovered Bodhinatha’s new book “Yoga’s Forgotten Foundations,” and have started ordering copies.
  • More fantastic artwork has arrived from S. Rajam for the new version of the Tirukural and an amazing image of Lord Nataraja by A. Manivel. We will show you one day…
  • Forward looking, thinking and planning are underway for a complete make over of our the look and feel of our web sites… watch for it in the months ahead.

END OF PHASE
Today is the last day of our phase
This edition of TAKA will remain posted

Only one photo today… it was raining such that we wanted to protect our cameras. But, got this one in…

Two recently newly wed Hindu couples visited this morning from Dallas and Kansas. One couple knew about us only from having just read a short article in the Hawaiian Airlines in-flight magazine while taking the inter-island flight.

Despite the nearly constant rainfall, they really enjoyed seeing the Iraivan Temple progress, and one of the couples was so eager to find books clearly explaining Hinduism in English, that they purchased our entire Master Course trilogy before leaving.

Date: December221998
Title: The Second Day of Pancha Ganapati
Category: Festivals and Sacraments
Duration: 7 min., 0 seconds
Date Given: December 22, 1998
Given by: Gurudeva

Today at Kauai Aadheenam, the second day of Pancha Ganapati, the wonderful Hindu festival of the holiday season for five days, worshipping the ever-giving Lord Ganesha. It is December 22 and today we have a celebration of honoring friends and neighbors. Those are the people who live next door to us, showering them with gifts and love.

We hope you are enjoying Pancha Ganapati. In the Ashrams throughout the world, it will eventually take the place of celebrating Christmas. I don’t know why Christmas is celebrated in so many Ashrams that are Hindu Ashrams or Hindu-based Ashrams because they don’t celebrate the Holy days of Islam, the Holy days of Judaism, the Holy days of Zoroastrianism. Only Christmas. Somehow, maybe a lot of Christian subconscious is there that needs to be replaced with Hindu subconscious, a Vedic subconscious of the existence of God everywhere, of the laws of karma, dharma, and reincarnation. According to the Abrahamic religions, of which Christianity is one, that is a false concept, a false doctrine. So says the Pope of Rome!

We have a question. It is about ahimsa and it is from Anchorage, Alaska. Hello up there! Are you getting cold? “I will not harm others by thought, word and deed. Question is, how do we harm others by thought?”

Well, thoughts are sound and color. Hateful thoughts are the darker colors and loving thoughts are the more pastel colors. If somebody holds a grudge against you, you can certainly feel it. Not only by their thought, by their body language, the expression on their face, their aura. The thoughts that come out from their mind can even travel long distances. You will feel those thought forms penetrating your aura and going right into your nerve system. Therefore, be careful of your thoughts because thought is the first thing that you do when you manufacture karma. So, you want to make good thoughts to make good karma.

Another question. This question came up right here on the Island of Kauai. A visitor we had asked, “If someone were to make money from illegal ways, but then gave that money to a good cause; does that make it alright?”

Well, no. There is good money and bad money. Bad money can never do anything good, because it came from an incorrect source. Money is energy because money gives you energy to do something that you would not ordinarily be able to do without it. The more money that you have, the more energy that you have. Of course, people who are up to their necks in debt but have a lot of money and are running ahead of their creditors, are actually poorer than the person who is living on the street that has no money at all. So look at it this way. If five dollars is given to a worthy organization by someone who obtained it from crooked means, it would cause that organization to lose something like five thousand dollars, eventually. Because, bad things cause bad things to happen. On the other side of it, if five dollars were given by a little old lady, perhaps from her pension or from her savings, to a worthy organization, and that is all she had to give and gave it with a full heart, that would cause that organization to which she gave, in its future, five thousand dollars or even more. Because, goodness creates goodness.

So, those who have drug money, money from performing abortions, money from cheating other people are stuck with it. It is never going to do any good, even if you use it on yourself. If you leave it to your heirs, they are going to squander it. It won’t last. It will go away.

Another question from Southern California, from a young man that is seventeen, who would like to join us on the cruise to Alaska. Yes, we are going to send you a brochure. We will do it right away. He would like to know if there is any special mantram or puja to be invoked during the time of Pancha Ganapati.

‘Aum Pancha Ganapati, Aum Pancha Ganapati, Aum Pancha Ganapati Aum’ will invoke the grace of Lord Ganesha. We are looking forward very much to meeting you. So we will see you in Vancouver and spend seven or eight days together among icebergs and whales, big birds and polar bears and going within ourself in the study of the wonderful Shum/Tyaef lexicon, discovering the new you, that is just in, inside of you.

Well, I will be seeing you, each and everyone tomorrow. My phone is ringing now. Maybe it is another question!

Aum Namah Sivaya. Take good care of each other and Happy Pancha Ganapati!

“It is the day-to-day reactions to circumstance that indicate the attainment and not mere recorded knowledge about the path. When the aspirant is able to meet ordinary happenings and respond to them in the effortless wisdom born of detachment, that indicates that his striving is genuine. When he is able to encounter conditions that send ordinary people into states of disappointment or discouragement and when his emotional nature indicates mastery over these lesser states of consciousness, he is well on his way toward filling the gaps of a natural growth of the instinctive vehicles–body, emotions and intellect.”

Dr. Narayana Rao and his wife, Sarojini, returned again today for Day 5 of their pilgrimage to Kauai Aadheenam. Dr. Rao is building a temple in Urbana, Illinois, and Bodhinatha had sent them a 2.5
feet Ganesha to help begin the project.

TRAVEL NEWS! Bodhinatha’s next travel is September 8-23: Malaysia, Singapore and Mauritius. See travel page for more information.

This morning they attended Gurudeva’s Chitra pada puja. Sarojini said she has never seen a pada puja done so beautifully.

Sadhaka Nilakantha is our pujari today.

Jai Gurudeva!

Dr. Rao prepared a power point presentation of the arrival of Ganesha in Urbana and showed it to Bodhinatha. They also sponsored their second padma hand rail for Iraivan Temple – this time in their daughter’s name.

After their meeting with Bodhinatha they toured the offices of Hinduism Today.

Here they are at the Narmada Lingam performing an abhishegam.

They will be back again tomorrow to spend the morning here before they fly off to Chicago in the afternoon.

Anna Purna gardens provide abundantly.

Temperatures are climing here on Kauai, running between the high 80’s and above… our Siddhidata Kulam team needs to cool off….

Young coconut water and a brief respite in the shade before Sadhaka Tejadeva goes back into the sunshine.

We are working on growing more papayas, daily fare for the monks’ breakfast. Here is a new orchard that was planted earlier this year…

Fruits are beginning to form.

It looks like all is well. We should get a good crop in the months ahead.

Date: October311998
Title: Change Mind, No to Drugs
Category: Drugs
Duration: 8 min., 14 seconds
Date Given: October_31_1998
Given By: Gurudeva

Today at Kauai Aadheenam. October 31.

Halloween. This is what we were talking about a few days ago.

Nitya Nadesan is one of my Church members, Saiva Siddhanta Church. He visits me at this time of the year on the Garden Island of Kauai. He is from the city of Seattle, Washington state. When he heard what I think you heard about Halloween, he said, when he goes home, there are eggs splattered all over the windows and doors of his house. He doesn’t eat eggs, he is a vegetarian and there they are! He has to hire somebody to clean them up. Our little devils are at it again! Imagine training children like that. Where are our brains anyway? Where are they? To say in the Tamil language, “Moolai illai.” No brains!

Today, I have a beautiful reading for you. I wrote many, many pages of a beautiful, inspired talk given in 1959, just before coming to Hawaii, the evening before. I flew off in the morning to Hawaii for the very first time. I wrote it all by hand, I hope I can read it because it is going into the book, ‘Merging with Siva’.

Today, we are editing the articles for ‘Hinduism Today’. I don’t have to do much editing. It goes through several editors before it ever comes to me and I listen to each one on my computer reading it to me. We have a supercard, voice control program. Works out very, very well. Each one has to have an OK from me, before it is printed.

In the Garden Island of Mauritius, on the other side of the planet from us, we had a Youth Retreat just recently. For Deepavali, were pre-booked excursions with a very beautiful cruise-ship, with twenty to thirty families enjoying a wonderful dinner, lectures from my two swamis there on various inspiring subjects. This was a fund-raising event for this beautiful park that we are building for the country, to unify everyone in the country that there is ‘One God, One World’.

We sent off two of our mathavasi monks to California on a fund-raising tour for San Marga Iraivan Temple foundation. Sadhaka Thondunatha, Yogi Tapodana flew off and are doing very well actually.

You are going to enjoy this inspired talk. It is about you, it is all about you! It is about the inner you, the core of your being. Given in 1959.

“The Self: you can’t explain it. You can sense its existence through the refined state of your senses, but you can’t explain it. To know it, you have to experience it. And the best you could say about it is that it is the depth of your Being, it’s the very core of you. It is you.”

Now, try this. As you are listening to me read, sit quietly.

“If you visualize above you nothing; below you nothing; to the right of you nothing; to the left of you nothing; in front of you nothing; in back of you nothing; and dissolve yourself into that nothingness, that would be the best way you could explain the realization of the Self. And yet that nothingness would not be the absence of something, like the nothingness in the inside an empty box, which would be like a void. That nothingness is the fullness of everything: the power, the sustaining power, of the existence of what appears to be everything.

“After you realize the Self, you see the mind for what it is — a self-created principle. That is the mind ever creating itself. The mind is form ever creating form, preserving form, creating new forms and destroying old forms. That is the mind.”

This is very beautiful, isn’t it? The Self within you is unchanging. your emotions change, your body changes, your mind changes. You can change your mind, other people can change your mind. That is what I was trying to say yesterday and several days ago, when I was talking about drugs. Don’t let anybody change your mind. After deep reflection, careful consideration, you might choose to change your mind. But, as far as drugs are concerned, say “No.” That is all you have to say. Don’t be a criminal or associate with criminals.

We talked to the Chief of Police here on Kauai, yesterday. And, he is setting up a task force to explain to us, what they do to drug abusers, drug users, drug pushers and the criminals they catch here through their secret service, plainclothesmen, officers in uniforms. Be careful, if you are listening to this and you are thinking that way, you might be in deep trouble. Or, if you know of anyone. He told us that he has set up a secret line for anonymous calls. You can call this line with information about anyone you suspect of committing a crime here on the island of Kauai. That would be beating wives, beating children without mercy, using drugs, selling drugs. Be careful. This is a very important warning to all who are tuned in to Cyberspace Ashram, our beautiful Cyberspace Ashram, through the Internet.

Well, I will be seeing you, looking at your face. I don’t know who I am talking to out there. I am talking to some group of people who have tuned in, I know. Otherwise, I’ve not talked about drugs and things like this before. I am tuning in to your mind, giving you advise to protect you for a better life.
