A little later in the afternoon the entire Wailua Mission, students, silipis, and friends of the Monastery were invited to a free "all you can eat" lunch buffet. It's the island's newest (and second) Indian restaurant, after all these years.
Naresh Chand, the owner of "Shivalik," greets Wailua Mission members and freinds at the door of his new restaurant in Kapaa. Naresh and his partner graciously insisted on serving their first "official meal" to the Monks of Kauai's Hindu Monastery. This food was packed and delivered fresh and hot to the monastery as an auspicious first step and arrived at the monastery at precisely 1:08 pm.!
The restaurant is immaculate and beautiful. They will officially open this Sunday to the public, having already brought a priest over for the opening blessing on the 7th. of July. But today it's only our members and students. Running an "all you can eat lunch buffet" as well as their regular menu for dinner, this restaurant will undoubtedly do very well on Kauai, where people have waited for years for Indian cuisine.
A wonderful vegetarian lunch with vegetable pakora, mango chutney, green chili chutney, rice, mixed vegetable curry, spinach and potato curry, garbanzo bean in onion sauce and roasted cumin and fenugreek and paratha. For desert, a kheer rice pudding!
Thank you, Naresh, and your more than friendly and efficient staff! A great spirit of aloha. Infinite blessings flow out to you as you embark on this new enterprise.
