“Hinduism has more sacraments, more sacred rites and ceremonies for its members, than perhaps any other religion in the world. These sacraments include the namakarana samskara, name-giving sacrament; annaprashana, first feeding; karnavedha, ear-piercing; vidyarambha, commencement of learning; vivaha, marriage; and many others.”
–Gurudeva

And today we witness such a sacrament in Kadavul. Here Bodhinatha signs the certificate attesting to the Annaprashana, first-feeding (of solid food) of little baby Jayendra Manogaran Mardemootoo, son of Kavita and Sivakumaren Mardemootoo.

Sun One Homa begins…

A small mountain of prayers were burned today.

Kavita and her father Deva Seyon sit for the samskara, as Kulapati Sivakumaren had to return to Mauritius… but we are sure everyone is looking in today to watch here on TAKA….

Jayendra was sound asleep through most of the homa despite the bells and chanting. His mother awakened him with a gentle massage and he was alert and looking all around, observing everything intently.

He wasn’t really too sure about that rice stuff there… having only had milk so far in this life…

But when his mother gave it to him he did quite well.

After that he was alert and watchful. What a blessing for this young boy to have these impressions at such a young age.

Here is Jayendra’s two sisters sitting with his grand mother and his great-grandmother. Four generations together with us today!

Aum Sivaya, Svaha!

Everyone listens intently to Bodhinatha’s Sun One talk. It was a glimpse of a short talk he has prepared: advice for Hindu parents, which he plan to turn into a small pamphlet that he can give to young couples who come for darshan. They always ask for his advice and he has about two minutes to give them what they need. Now they can also walk away with something they can put to work at home.

Vibhuti blessings.

Eswara and Madhuri from Bothell, Washington. Originally from South India.

This wonderful couple had the amazing spirit of worship. They were so devoted in their heart to God that they spent about an hour singing devotional songs with deep concentration in the Kadavul Temple.

Here they are performing abhishekam to the Narmada lingam while chanting Sanskrit stotras. They will be coming back to the Aadheenam and walk on the grounds. The Narmada lingam awaits their return for another abhishekam. It is always uplifting to the monks to have devotees come with such an attitude or bhakti.

Turning the clock back 48 hours we take you to Himalayan Acres where six monks went over the retreat to participate in one of the great endeavors of humankind.

It’s one of the great things we can do to help Mother Earth: plant trees!

Windbreaks are an important element of any diversified agricultural land development. We were surprised to learn that land exposed to wind is a big source of top soil loss. Of course, little fruit trees and other plants also benefit if they protect from what can sometimes be fierce tropical winds. Ironwood tree are the species of choice… We have laid down a plastic weed mat with our tractor and planted some 400 tree today.

Sadhaka Adinatha is taking the initiative an lead in this endeavor.

It is so beautiful here on what we call “Himalayan Acres” or “Kalepa” There are no machines, no electrical engines, no air-conditioners, just the silence of nature and the vision of the mountains in the distance.

Here we are with trees from a previous planting, they are surviving nicely amidst the guinea grass which is a constant challenge to other plants in this area.

But, the ironwoods will win in end. Sadhaka Adinatha wants to send this message to everyone who participated in the tree planting during the last Guru Purnima:

“I want to thank all the devotees who participated in the tree planting last year in June at Guru Purnima time. Swami Bua blessed us on that day and helped plant the first tree of the day… as you can see some of these are reaching eight feet in height. If you will be coming again this year to Guru Purnima, we look forward to having you join us again for another tree planting being planned. “

Plant a tree today!
