Surprise!

“I might surprise you when I say that man’s soul is created and not created. True, the soul body of light was created by God Siva Himself. Within this body of light and consciousness exist, without beginning or end, the two perfections of Parasiva and Satchidananda. We find the paradoxes of oneness and twoness, of being and becoming, of created and uncreated existence subtly delineated through an understanding of the three perfections of our great God Siva.”

–Gurudeva

It was a special day for Lord Siva today in Kadavul Temple: Ardra Nakshatra, the one day each month when the six-foot tall image of Lord Nataraja is bathed from head to toe. It is quite a sight, especially during the milk and yogurt abhishekam. Though they did not know it was a special day a number of Hindu families came and were fortunate to witness the puja.

Here is Mr. Kottimukkulur Nagarajanraja and his wife. They are from Rajapalayam, South India, and related to long-time devotee of Gurudeva, Mr. Pethu Raja. They were visiting their son in Texas who brought them on a
short Hawaiian vacation.

Several guests enjoying the grounds around Iraivan. It was a brilliant sunny day.

Mr. Nagarajanraja again, with his wife… He is a “film” (movie) producer and distributor in Tamil Nadu.

Mr. Nagarajanraja has worked with Tamil Nadu’s famous actors such as Rajnikanth. He said he felt very blessed to be here.

Shoba and Mohan from San Jose, California, also enjoyed the puja, tour and a meeting with Bodhinatha.

Shoba and Mohan again out on San Marga. It was their first visit to Kauai Aadheenam though Shoba said that she attended a talk that Gurudeva gave in Toronto about 10 years ago.

Srikanth who lives on Kauai and works for the Navy brought his in-laws who are visiting from Trichy, South India for the morning puja and a tour of the grounds.

Yogi Japendranatha has been hosting his mother and her husband here for several days now. It’s always a joy to be our mother!

Paramacharya Palaniswami gives Sadhaka Jivananandanatha a preview of the next cover of Hinduism Today on which we have shot a man going into a fit of rage, having lost his temper. This is the lead story in this issue: Anger Management. Actually we didn’t shoot him at all, (we believe in nonviolence) we had the Dinodia Studio in Mumbai take posed photographs of him of which this is one.

Dal’s for sale… a diverse variety of spit peas and legumes, a key source of protein in the vegetarian diet.

Thai Pusam day at the Aru Padai Veedu Murugan temple, Chennai.

Abhishekam at the shrine of Tiruchendur Murugan.

The temple shakti always inspires inner moments which cannot be spoken of, only experienced.

There is nothing so sweet as the fellowship of like minded souls all intent on the spiritual quest.

It’s a magical thing about innersearch that it brings together people that would normally never meet.

This lady is happily grinding sandal paste in an ally behind the temple, pleased to have become for a moment the center of focus for our photographer. This fat old bowser was quite harmless.

Our finale dinner was declared “formal dress!” and everyone out did themselves….

Ladies from four different nations: Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and Kauai. Interesting all are islands… Australia is just a big island, right?

New friends for life.

On the right, in front is Shakti Mahadevan who had written a song for Bodhinatha, made copies and commandeered a willing chorus group to sing it for him.

Sung to the tune of an old American folk song taught to children in the US for ages… “Oh Susanna” with

“Oh Bodhinatha…
Our dear Satguru…”

by a group of songsters some of whom only got their cues an hour before on the bus… it was, well, fun and heart-warming to the max! That’s all I can say… you had to have been there.
