“To attain even the permission to perform yoga one must have the grace of Lord Ganesha and the grace of Lord Muruga. Lord Muruga is the God of the kundalini, of the advanced yogic practices. Unfoldment all happens within the kundalini and the chakras within our subtle bodies. Once a profound relationship is developed with Lord Muruga, then with the guru’s permission and guidance, true yoga may commence. Otherwise, no matter how long one sits in meditation, no matter how hard one tries, it is just sitting, it is just trying. There is no fire there, no shakti, no power, no change. It is the Gods who control the fire and at this stage help the devotee immensely, bringing him closer and closer to the supreme God, Siva. Quite often the yogi in his deep internalized state may see in vision the feet or form of God Siva before he begins to blend into the mind of God Siva, called Satchidananda. It is God and Gods in form that help us to find the formless God.”

Here is the bright and joyful family of Dasan and Shakti Mahadeva and their daughter Chudika. After many years of study they have officially entered Saivism having had the Namakarana Samskara in Chidambaram. Dasan is a top notch administrator in a private school in California and helps from time to time with web site seva for us. Shakti is a spiritual counselor and teacher who has been using Gurudeva’s books in her practice and young Chudika is a bright clear light. Its a boon and an honor to have such fine souls become part of our global family!

Bodhinatha’s next journey is brief, on the weekend of April 3-4 in the San Francisco Bay Area of northern California. He will visit with Saiva Siddhanta Church members and Himalayan Academy Students.

At home the cool rainy days continue… here we are in the Lambodara Kulam office, just adjacent to the Nataraja shrine in Kadavul Hindu Temple. Sadhaka Haranandinatha opens the incoming mail for San Marga. This will be a mix of donations, archana requests, cards and a lot of work to keep him busy. Oh! What is this? 5,000 Malaysian Ringgits gathered by Arjunan Subramaniam from various business associates sent as a group donation to Iraivan!

Yogi Mahadevan, our Homa priest and host to guests is a deep meditator (as we can see in this photo)…

😉

Actually this camera opens it’s shutter only after a few seconds have passed since you push the button… thus we caught him blinking…. Yogi overseas the cows, temple, food purchasing as well as a variety of tasks related to pilgrims and guests.

Paramacharya Ceyonswami oversees the kulam and handles astrology for the Church members, coordinates the health care of the monks and various matters relating to the building of the Iraivan temple. He also does the morning Siva puja most days in Kadavul Temple.

We have this very auspicious report from Malaysia on the wedding of a great sevak and dynamic youth leader in our community, Arvindraj Chandrasekaran. Arvindraj came to Kauai Aadheenam on Task force years ago and was very close to Gurudeva during that time along with Sivaneswaran. They caught “the irreversible spirit of the guru which carries through all of the shishyas. (–Gurudeva) ” while they were here and went home to Malaysia to inspire and work for Gurudeva’s mission.

Arvindraj came to know of a fine lady in New Delhi, Renu and after months of communications they decided to get married. “Raj” sends us this report today….

~~~~~~~
The engagement ceremony was held at the Kamakshi Vegetarian restaurant, a nice quiet family restaurant inside the Samrat Hotel in New Delhi. The ceremony was done before Lord Ganesha in the North Indian style, the main part of which is the exchange of rings. Gifts are exchanged between both families as we celebrate the fact that we are well on our way to become one family. After that, we all sit down together & have our dinner as one family.
Incidentally, our engagement was held on Maha Shivarathri day, which added to the auspiciousness of our engagement.
Renu & myself seated together at the beginning of the wedding ceremony on the 23rd of February at Hindu Maha Sabha hall in New Delhi.
Seven steps around the sacred fire. Agni, the messenger of the Gods witnesses our marriage vows.
The tying of the thaali. Our wedding was a good mix of North & South Indian traditions. The wedding ceremony was done in North Indian style, whereas the thaali was of the South Indian tradition.
The thaali or wedding pendant was blessed at the Siva temple in Klang & taken to India for the wedding. Traditionally, the gold pendant is made at an auspicious time by the goldsmith & then blessed at a Hindu temple before it is tied around the neck of the bride on the wedding day using wet, cotton threads that are soaked in turmeric.
The sindoor or kumkum is then placed on the bride’s forehead as an indication that she is now married.
A ceremony is then performed to hand-over the bride to the parents of her husband. The husband’s parents are now her parents too & she accepts her husband’s family as her own.
The wedding reception in New Delhi.
Upon arriving in Malaysia, the “ponnu alaippu” or “bride’s homecoming” ceremony is performed at our current residence in Klang. An arati is shown at the entrance to ward off negative influences.
The bride then brings a lighted lamp into the home shrine. This ceremony is to symbolize the fact that the bride is like a goddess who brings wealth & auspiciousness into the home.-
The bride & groom then do their first prayers together as a newly married couple in the home shrine.
Congratulations to Raj and Renu from all of Gurudeva’s Sishya around the world!
