Gurudeva receives a Pada Puja in Europe at one of the temples he visited on his last trip:

Our members here on Kauai have the wonderful duty to host pilgrims and temple visitors on the mornings of the retreats… a member of each of the families takes turns. This past retreat Deva Seyon was our temple host and upon returning home he writes:

“Well it’s a temple phase this week with Sun 1 homa, Chitra padapuja on Sun 3 and Vaikasi Visakam on Sun 4, with our retreat hosting duties that is a wonderful exposure of our outer and inner bodies to the light of Kadavul. How, with all this, we manage to forget who we are and where we are going is a phenomena of nature! The reality of Gurudeva’s absence physically is a long way from sinking through every cell of our body. We experience mini shocks and tremors daily that this is now Reality. He is not going to walk in from behind the curtain – no he is not in his office waiting for you – no he isn’t sitting under the Banyan tree or walking along the pali. He is not riding along San Marga in his mushika cart eyeing the future of this magical land or visualizing the endless steam of pilgrims coming to San Marga. He is not out petting the cows or dancing in the woods next to the river. He is not talking to the silpis or feeling the stones with his hands or going from kulam to kulam pointing the way for the next innovation – or is He? Or is He?”

Bodhinatha at his desk in the Mahogony room. And since the words of inspiration are flowing, here is another small poem offered by a visitor after coming to Kauai Aadheenam:

To the 24-hued rainbow, that goes by the name of the ‘Kauai Aadheenam’:

Blessing

A bridge too far to something near
That is a rainbow for you, my dear!
A symbol of joy
A message from the gods
Truly shows we belong to the stars!

Think of the rainbow
Complete in its range of colors
Mix and match and you have it all
Like the life we live
From Dawn till Nightfall!
That is how beauty emerges
When the sun shines alongside raining clouds
Like a smile that brightens the day
when things happen to send tears our way!
Arching across the sky
Lifting my spirits high
How do I thank you, God,
For yet another gift you give?

I have found my pot of gold
In the inner smiles that unfold
As I stop in my tracks
To drink in this miracle I behold –
The 24-hued rainbow
that goes by the name of
‘The Kauai Aadheenam’!

We get a wonderful sense of the way temples were built in India centuries ago. This slow, patient, persistent process must in part empower the stones as the silpis, day after day, put their prana into every particle of the temple. No wonder it zings with shakti!

Ancient tools of the trade along with a modern innovation: safety glasses to prevent the inevitable chip in the eye which in days of yore might have meant a life-long injury. Gurudeva was adamant he wanted no such thing to happen while his temple was being built.

We bring you a wonderful report on activites at our Mauritius, Saiva Dharmasala.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another wonderful day with Lord Ganapathi at the Dharmasala on the first Sunday of May. Despite the very chilly rainy weather on that day, visitors did not want to miss their Homa. Inside the mandapam the kids were squeezing in to feel the warmth of their parents. As usual devotees love to bring offerings which are placed at the Holy Feet of the huge Pancha Mukha Ganapathi.
On each Sunday a Kulapati reads an extract from Gurudeva’s book Loving Ganesha. Here Kulapati S K Moorghen from Rose Hill has chosen to read on the significance of group singing. The extract was then translated and explained in the local French dialect by another kulapati for everyone’s clear understanding.
There are always four kulapatis of the Church seated around the sacred homa fire. While the sacred mantra was being chanted several notes written by devotees were burned in the fire by our four kulapatis, Siven Koothan, Amba Valaytan, SK Moorghen and Moogam Periatumbee.
On that Sunday a group of young ladies from Flacq led by Kulapati and Kulamata Kulagan performed a Kollattum dance in front of Lord Ganesha. They also sang a beautiful devotional song in Tamil. Do you have any artistic talent connected to Lord Ganesha ? Please, let us know. Our guests would be delighted by your performance….
The Rengapen family of Rempart. Our young lady in the middle finds very interesting the contents of one of the last issues of our Hinduism Today.
Selvi Thielemay on the left, from Flacq with her family. Selvi has been a regular participant in our Youth Retreats in the past. Her family are always happy to attend religious ceremonies at the Park.
