A distant devotee wrote:

“Please express my blessings to all the monks in this time of change. Gurudeva lives within me, as he always has. My image of him is always of his being in perpetual Oneness. He never changed. However, he profoundly changed my life.”

Title: Yamas and Niyamas part 3 Ashtanga Yoga

Category: Yamas and Niyamas

Duration: 3 minutes, 54 seconds

Date Given: May 5, 2002

Date Posted: May_13_2002

Given by: Bodhinatha

Cybertalk: The Yamas are the first stage of the spiritual path. It is the
first step in ashtanga yoga, followed by niyama. If someone want to follow
the traditional yoga path, they must master the yamas and the niyamas. The
yamas an niyamas are advice, not commandments. This means that these are the
ideals toward which we strive, but if we fall a little short, that is not a
catastrophe. We must try better next time.

Bodhinatha will be happy to hold “Prasnottara Satsang” — “Questions and Answers” over the telephone with any Hindu religious societies, Hindu youth groups, Radio talk show hosts etc. All you need is a phone with a speaker and an enthusiastic audience. Arrangements may be made in advance by sending email to Sadhaka Mahadevan

If you are experiencing any problems listening to the audio, please to go our Audio FAQ page for sound geeks and follow the directions there.

Our phase started up with a dynamic yagna — the leaping flames opening the portal between the worlds for our prayers to rise and for awareness to be drawn deep within.

Bodhinatha continued with his discourse on the Yamas. In his inimitable style of using real life anecdotes he brought to life today the finer points of implementing “Ahimsa” in our speech and thoughts.

Here he blesses Yoginathaswami. Yoginathaswami will be joining Bodhinatha on the up-and-coming trip to Pittsburg this summer. You might enjoy joining them at the Symposium on Hinduism (click for a full schedule and details.)

Another bright guest who came the last day of last phase: Kayla Tse – a Reiki Master who has been a student also of Sasi Velupillai’s (Palm reader and spiritual teacher) World Peace International Institute. Sasi recommended she visit the temple.

Dr A. Ponnampalam and his son Muhun from Australia, originally from Jaffna, Sri Lanka.

We had a week of heavy rains, just to make sure Mount Waialeale keeps up its position as the wettest place on planet earth… and we are the beneficiaries of all that water. Here our “Wailua Ganga” is full and the pond swells its banks, as the water swirls around in the big “bowl” which is some think is a lava tube that is at least 300 feet deep.

It’s is always an exhilarating moment to go stand by the river when it rushes so powerfully to merge with the sea.

Here is our “falls” which, during really heavy rains, almost flattens out as the pond fills up with so much water that cannot escape the south end (far left corner in the distance) fast enough…. until it rises to the level of the upper western stream bed (to the right). The “wow” factor is always high as well, no matter how many times you have seen it before.

Another wow factor is watching course number nine go up. This level of the inner sanctum will be just above head level as you circumambulate the shrine.

We see here some of the really fine work the silpis are doing in India.

The stones are getting more massive as the sanctum rises. Please give generously. You can sponsor a whole course of stones for US $7,500.00. Click here to join the family of temple builders
