ANNOUCEMENT: Today’s TAKA is the last of this phase, and will remain up until Thursday evening, while we take a two day retreat. Those of you who get the Master Course lesson by email, we hope to have the server up and running by Wednesday. In the meantime we encourage you to read the lesson of the day right here on line or, better yet, get all three books and keep them in your shrine room at home so that in the future you never miss a single lesson!

Gurudeva’s statement on September 11th

This morning was an active one for Bodhinatha. He met with one of the Vision Kauai members who came to visit the Aadheenam and also with Sadhunathan and Dhanya Nadesan.

On the right is Ramachandran and Prabha Srinivasan from Houston, Texas, alongside Satish and Sunita Bhatiar from Ottawa, Canada and an unknown pilgrim who joined them for a tour of San Marga gardens.

Sannyasin Shanmuganathaswami. He helps Bodhinatha, as he did Gurudeva, with communications with our members. He also handles the programming of our database and panchangams.

Tour day today was filled with a diversity of people, but they were all of a high-minded spiritual vibration.

Shanmuga Sthapathi watches closely as Raman works on a stone that needs to be fitted for the 8th course.

This is a very delicate area where the stones that are just behind the left and right door frames of the sanctum have to be carved into a circular shape to “receive” the rounded back of the door frame. Level is critical at every stage.

Lord Ganesha Arrives in Arizona

Lord Ganesha Arrives in Arizona

Many temples around the world had humble beginnings, often under Gurudeva’s guidance, the first of which was always to begin with the worship of Lord Ganesha. He would personally pledge to the temple society that he would have made and sent from India their first murthi. This new temple in Arizona is just beginning and Lord Ganesha has arrived from India! We have this report from the temple secretary:

“Prostrations to the holy feet of Gurudeva,

Today (Feb 17, 2002), the Ganesha deity given to the Hindu community of Metropolitan Phoenix, Arizona by Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami was moved to the Interim Structure in the Temple site near Maricopa City, Arizona, 25 miles from Phoenix.

Many devotees participated in the move. With Ganesha’s grace, the move went very smoothly.

After the move, Temple priest Raman Sastrigal conducted the puja. Next Sunday (Feb 24, 2002), Ganesha’s move to the temple site will be celebrated with Ganapathi Homam, Abishekam and puja. Rajaratna Bhattar, Priest Emeritus of Houston Meenakshi Temple and Raman Sastrigal will conduct the homam and puja.

Gurudeva’s blessings for the Ganesha Temple in Phoenix is coming to fruitition.

We have an important but somewhat delayed report from Malaysia where our members participated in a “symposium” for young people. Our members report:

Malaysia Hindu Sangam organized The Millennium Hindu Symposium for
universities and college undergraduates on the 30th of December 2001 at
Kalamandabam Scott Road temple in Brickfields from 9am to 6pm.
About 120 students of local universities and colleges attended it.

The main reason this symposium was held is to give points and values on Hinduism to
the students and also to motivate the Hindu students to do service to the
community.

The occasion started with a Ganesha dance, by the Putra Kalashektra club of performing arts.
The founder of the club, and also an ex UPM (University Putra Malaysia) student Mr.Ravishankar joined in the dance.

This was followed by the multimedia presentation on Hinduism, which was very well done.

Then DR.Suresh Kumar , a well known speaker from the Sai Baba Center spoke on the basics of Hinduism such as how important it is to know your religion and to know Lord Ganesha the remover of obstacles. His speech was funny and it entertained almost all the audience.

This was followed by the speech of MR.S.Pandi Durai a lawyer by profession.
He spoke on his life experiences and achievements and also how he as a student
learned Hinduism. He was the only speaker who spoke in Tamil and his speech was
really good .They should have allocated more time for him.

Then Dato.J.Jagadesan from Sai Baba Center gave his speech about Lord Ganesha and Lord Muruga.(the basics). He also asked for volunteers for the project ATMAH , a project to help the needy in the slumps and estates.

Overall the symposium was good for the beginners.

Meanwhile there were exhibition and book sales in the ground floor. About 8 organizations
had their booths set up for the event . Among theme were Saiva Siddhanta Church, Self Realization Fellowship and Divine Life Society. This gave an opportunity for the participants to get to know various Hindu groups to pursue their spiritual goals.

Brahmacharini Chudikadeva always has a booth at important functions in Malaysia and has been the mainstay behind distribution of Hinduism Today and Gurudeva’s book in Malaysia for many years.
