Gurudeva’s Statement on Sept. 11th

Gurudeva Tributes and Testimonials:

======

“Thank you so much for the detailed updates on Gurudeva. Whenever I read it I feel I am there with all of you and am able to visualize Gurudeva, his Acharyas and Monastics, sitting close to him.

Gurudeva is dear to all who have come close to him, even if it lasted only a few seconds. He has brought Sivaloka into the Bhuloka with his selfless acts, his unconditional love for all, his love of harmony, peace and nature. He had helped me to understand Saivite worship and all the meaning behind the rituals.

For me, personally, he has helped me to understand the purpose of my life. Understanding it, I am able to see dharma, and have the courage to face my karmas. Before, I too asked the question “Why me, what have I done to deserve the loss of my father at age five?” But, now it is my karma, and all of life is a challenge, but I know I have God Siva’s presence with me to cope with and overcome the karmas or challenges.

Gurudeva has shown us and explained in his wonderful books how to live our lives fruitfully. But now, I feel that Gurudeva has taken on pain, illness and the fast to show us that we have to be brave to face death of the physical body gracefully.

By fasting, he is helping us (devotees) to come to understand that he will be leaving us soon, but we need to lean on our own spine and hold the truth which is the foundation of life and living.

As Gurudeva has said, he will continue to help us 24 hours each day so we have to detach ourselves from his physical being. I feel, however, much as we understand in theory about attachment and detachment, it is still so difficult when we have to face it head on.
I pray for Gurudeva peace and pain-free rest as his body gets frailer. With Lord Ganesha’s help I am able to come to terms with the final farewell, with the knowledge that Gurudeva will be united with God Siva.

We are sorry we cannot be at the Aadheenam with all of you, but in spirit we are present at the monastery.

All our love and good wishes to you all.

Om Namasivaya”

Title: Mistakes are not problems

Category: Family

Duration: 15 min. 19 seconds

Cybertalk: Gurudeva said, “Problems are not problems. A problem is a
repetition of the past that needs to be adjusted.” It means that when we
make a mistake, we think that we shouldn’t have done what we did; it would
be better if it didn’t happen. Gurudeva didn’t look at it that way. What
needs to be adjusted? Our understanding, knowledge, wisdom. Teach children
not to repeat a mistake. Okay to make a mistake once, but what’s the point
of repeating it? Teach when young, and they will think that when they are
older. Goal is a self-correcting mechanism.

Cybertalk Ends”

As we read the songs of Sage Yogaswami that he sang to his Guru, Chellapaswami, we see in them our beloved Gurudeva and realize that the truth he brought to us has been the truth that flows like a river down through time through the Guru Parampara. Looking up at the heavens this verse from Yogaswami’s famous song “Engal Gurunathan” (Our Guru Master) seems to be written on the very clouds:

“Our Gurunathan is He
Who taught me the mysteries of Yoga
By exalted contemplation pure,
To merge the finite consciousness
With that of the Divine source.
Then did I perceive the non-dual,
Supramental, timeless beyond space.
‘Do thou apprehend the cosmic dance,
That pulsates in universal consciousness,
By giving up all attachments,’ so said He.
He is our Gurunathan.”

What Are Hinduism’s Rites of Passage?

Sloka 91

Hindus celebrate life’s crucial junctures by holy sacraments, or rites of passage, called saskras, which impress the subconscious mind, inspire family and community sharing and invoke the Gods’ blessings. Aum.

Indian Ocean Monastery
Gurudeva’s spiritual center in the island country of Mauritius
in the Indian Ocean near South Africa

On January 6th all the sishyas of Mauritius gathered at the Ganesha Mandapam to joyously celebrate Guru Jayanthi, the birth anniversary of Gurudeva. On the eve it had been raining heavily and at night there was much thunder and lightning over the island. It was as if Nature was cleansing itself and the physical atmosphere at the Spiritual Park was being charged with much pure energy in a divine way. However, in the morning the sun was radiantly smiling in the sky and very early most of the devotees were already in the Mandapam, helping happily to set up the Peetham and attend to decorations with tornums. The ceremony started with Natchintanaii singing. Then Brahmachari Vel Mahalingum started the pada puja on the Tiruvadi of Gurudeva. Here we see the ceremonial ablution of the Guru’s holy sandals with precious traditional substances.

Once the ablution was over, the sandals were being beautifully decorated with flowers. Fruits were offered. At a certain point during the pada puja, all the sishyas present chanted together the 108 names of the Guru. Then everyone stood up to when the arthi was being performed. In the Kularvana Tantra we read:

“Therefore worship the Guru. Worship his Feet. Cherish the very sandals which hold his Feet. All knowledge is founded on those Feet. Remember and cherish those Feet which yield infinitely more merit than any number of observances, gifts, sacrifices, pilgrimages, mantras-japa and rituals of worship.”

The veena is an old classical Hindu drone strings instrument that can be tuned to any desired pitch. The music of the veena is said to have the divine power to mystically raise oneself to higher spiritual consciousness. A few years ago this instrment was barely known in Mauritius. Today a new Saivite generation coming up is determined to promote it in the island.

Here we see Kulamata Premila Manick giving her very first performance in the Church for Guru Jayanthi. Premila had her personal veena and dedicated herself to her study with the Blessings of Gurudeva four years ago. She has always wanted to offer this first performance to Gurudeva. Now her wish has been accomplished. She was being accompanied by professional musicians on that day. Though still a veena student, her talented performance was highly appreciated by all those present. Kulamata Premila Manick has also studied South Indian Kucchipudi dance in her youth, as well as Carnatic music.

Being in the Guru Darshan is very uplifting for these sishyas. Here Parmeshwaran Ramsamy is accompanying the happy Natchintanai singers with his harmonium.

In the group of sishyas present we can see Sublall Jeetunshiv who lives at l’Aventure in Flacq attentively listening to the message of Satguru Bodhinatha which was read on that day by Kulapathi SK Moorghen. Everyone rejoiced when they heard that H.H Satuguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami is coming to Mauritius for Ganesha Chaturthi this year.

It was indeed a wonderful day for all the Mauritius sishyas to be with Gurudeva on the inside.

From the Kularnava Tantra:

” Verily, the Guru is none other than Sadasiva. That is the Truth. Siva Himself is the Truth. Otherwise, who is it who gives fulfillment and liberation? There is no difference between God, Siva and Guru. It is ignorance to make a distinction.”
