Bodhinatha continues in the tradition of Gurudeva to support the Hindu temples in North America and other countries and is visiting several temples in the US and Canada this summer.

TRAVEL NEWS! Bodhinatha is currently visiting Edmonton and Vancouver, Canada.
Next travel is July 3-4 in Cincinnati, Ohio. See travel page for more information.

Bodhinatha and Shanmuganathaswami flew from the Atlanta Hindu Temple to Washington, DC to visit the Murugan Temple of North America in Lanham, Maryland. The temple was celebrating its annual observance and was decorated for the occasion. Visit the temple online at http://www.murugantemple.org/main.jsp

The temple has four priests and they greeted Bodhinatha warmly at the front of the temple. They had been doing ceremonies with conch shells, seen here on the table, and today the conches would be used to bathe Lord Murugan.

Inside the spacious temple were several shrines, including the Pillaiyar Deity Gurudeva had given to A. Saravanapavan to begin the temple in 1983. Here the devotees are seated listening to Bodhinatha’s talk on Lord Murugan.

Bodhinatha met Julie Rajan and her husband. Julie is a writer for Hinduism Today, one of our finest.

The children at the temple attend classes on Saivism and Tamil on the weekends. They asked Bodhinatha some insightful questions about Lord Siva.

Bodhinatha in front of the temple. The temple plans to build a Rajagopuram which would be seen from the interstate highway which stretches from Maine to Florida. Every person going by would have darshan of this Hindu temple.

Vayudeva Varadan is a frequent visitor and karma yogi at the temple. He came to see Bodhinatha at the hotel.

This is Autar Matoo, an avid reader of Hinduism Today. He had visited the monastery on Kauai and had some lively discussions with the HT staff about issues surrounding genetically modified foods. He works for the USDA.

Here is Dharmalingam Siddhan, his wife Courtney, daughter Dhara and his mother Lee. They drove down from Pittsburg to see Bodhinatha. They live near the Hindu-Jain temple.

Roger and Florence Maharaja drove from New York with their son Shiva and daughter Carrie Ann to meet Bodhinatha. They are staunch supporters of Hinduism Today and promoters of Gurudeva’s books. They recently managed a booth at the India Heritage festival in New Jersey where people signed up to receive free copies of Hinduism Today, Island Temple, Ten Questions people ask about Hinduism, Four Denominations of Hinduism and the hatha yoga poster.

Nigel Siva Subramaniam is here with his wife Inpah, son Ragavan and his mother. Nigel teaches the Saivism class to the children at the Murugan temple. Inpah provided delicious Jaffna-style meals for Bodhinatha, and Ragavan, 19, asked many questions about Hinduism which have been on his mind. Many thanks to the Subramaniams for their help during Bodhinatha’s visit to Maryland.

Pathmini Saravanapavan came with her son. Pathmini originally hosted Gurudeva on his earlier travels to the Bethesda area and keep the granite Ganesha given by Gurudeva in her home for a long time, doing daily pujas until the temple manifest.

Pathmini created two endowments with Hindu Heritage Endowment (hheonline.org) last year for the Murugan temple.

Bodhinatha presented her with the first two grant checks for these endowments. She wants to create two more endowments for two temples in Sri Lanka.

Drs. Kandasamy and Ranjini Ambalavanar came with their daughter Vishney and son Ram. Ranjini helped produce a fund raising dinner for Iraivan Temple at the Murugan Temple.

Swarup Bhatnagar (seated in the back) came with her two sons Rohit and Mohit, their wives and children. Swarup was fortunate enough to go on three Innersearch cruises with Gurudeva. They really love Iraivan temple and are staunch supporters of Gurudeva’s vision.

Srinivas Subban, a Master Course student, came down from New Jersey to meet Bodhinatha.

Sunder and Shanti Subramaniam came with their son Mahesh.

Balakrishnana and Janaki came to seek some advise from Bodhinatha about installing a Murugan Deity in their local temple.

This is an dear friend and long-time supporter of Gurudeva’s, Mr. R.V. Subramaniam.

Edmonton Day Three Events

Paramacharya Ceyonswami writes from Canada:

This is the Rajeesh Bali family who came to see Bodhinatha at the hotel in Vancouver. Though Rajeesh and his wife are immigrants from Fiji, their children were born and raised in Canada. Rajeesh has been a devotee of Gurudeva for 15 years and draws on Gurudeva’s teachings to give lectures at his local “Fijian” temple. They would like Bodhinatha to give a talk there when he visits Canada again.

During the functions of the second evening of the 10 day festival at the Maha Ganapati Temple, Bodhinatha met with the “seniors group”. Each of the 10 grandma’s introduced themselves and asked questions. Most all of them had met Yogaswami in Jaffna many years ago. It is their goal and life’s dream to charter a plane and pilgrimage to Kauai Aadheenam, along with a larger group of grandma’s from Toronto.

Priests chanting Sri Rudram while walking in front of the parade around the temple.

Bodhinatha leading the procession outside for the circumambulation of the temple.

On the right is Subramania Kurukkal, the head priest of the temple.

Securing Ganesha for his ride around the temple.

Here we go Ganesha!

Subramania Kurukkal and his wife, who cooked a fantastic Sri Lankan feast for Bodhinatha tonight.
