Gurudeva signing books for guests…

The famous paragraph from Dancing with Siva, which says it all:

“We have taken birth in a physical body to grow and evolve into our divine potential. We are inwardly already one with God. Our religion contains the knowledge of how to realize this oneness and not create unwanted experiences along the way. The peerless path is following the way of our spiritual forefathers, discovering the mystical meaning of the scriptures. The peerless path is commitment, study, discipline, practice and the maturing of yoga into wisdom. In the beginning stages, we suffer until we learn. Learning leads us to service; and selfless service is the beginning of spiritual striving. Service leads us to understanding. Understanding leads us to meditate deeply and without distractions. Finally, meditation leads us to surrender in God. This is the straight and certain path, the San Marga, leading to Self Realization–the inmost purpose of life–and subsequently to moksha, freedom from rebirth. The Vedas wisely affirm, “By austerity, goodness is obtained. From goodness, understanding is reached. From understanding, the Self is obtained, and he who obtains the Self is freed from the cycle of birth and death.” Aum Namah Sivaya.

It’s ashram sadhana day at the Aadheenam and the monks are out and about cleaning and working on upgrading various parts of the monastery.

We were happy to have Michael Duncan and his family with us. His wife is from Thailand.

Michael senior and Michael junior went on the last Innersearch with us.

They have a home in Thailand and also a home on the Big Island of Hawaii. They are staying now in Hawaii and came on a pilgrimage to the Aadheenam.

Young Michael actually goes by the name of “Moose” and though just 10 years old he’s a big strapping young man. His sister’s name is Susy.

In the background is the Iraivan Temple where at the moment this was taken a third container had arrived on the island, been off-loaded and delivered today. No, Michael is not wearing some strange hat…that’s a hanging plant just in front of him.

Sadhaka Nilakantha is just getting ready for his duty from 12 noon to 3 pm vigil in Kadavul.

Sadhaka is on the Siddhidata Kulam team, of which there are only three now, while Sadhaka Tejadeva is on his “sojourn in the world,” training period.

The featured project today is a new foot path by the side of the Nandi Mandapam. Sannyasin Saravananathaswami removing some grass sod.

The goal will be to have people take off there shoes at this point if they plan to enter the temple.

If they are not going into the temple, as is often the case with many tourists, or visitors coming on some business matter, they can walk on this new path and keep their shoes on.

Meanwhile at lunch today lots of news was shared by Yoginathaswami about his kulam’s activities… the temple is the main focus, but on other fronts he has been in communication with the contractor who will replace the tile roof on the main Aadheenam building and a number of mechanics who came to work on our vehicle, Bob Cat and other equipment.

The path making progress. It will be filled initially with red cinder…to make a more natural walk-way.

This afternoon, two task forcers arrive, Kulapati Janaka Param and Jothi Param.

An up shot of Nandi.

The walls around temples were built to provide protection in early days from outside threats.

Innersearchers in bliss

The Kodimaram (literally “flag tree”) at one of the temples.

Dasan Mahadeva at Tanjavur…

The gomukai or water spout that comes out of the inner sanctum, supported on the head of a gana, elemental being. A similar gana will be carved for Iraivan’s gomukai.
