Homa ablaze…

We had quite a group today at the homa. Kulapati and Kulamata Deva and Amala Seyon had the joy of having their entire family together: daughter Kulamata Kavita and son-in-law and Kulapati Sivakumaren with their two daughters, Basanti and Dipanjalai, all the way from Mauritius and their other daughter, and her children from the mainland. Also an Indian family from the mainland as well.

Kulapati and Kulamata Easan and Sundari Katir with their two children, Venita and Kartikeya.

Current Overview

The Iraivan temple at a distance… our continuing rains have the surrounding areas filled with puddles, the air is fresh, clean and cool…

Tea break at 10 am for the silpis.

Stone waiting to go up to the vimanam.

The Wailua…full now day in and day out for several days as Mount Waialeale works to maintain its position as the rainiest spot on earth. Some predict that water will be a major issue for humans in the decades to come. We are fortunate in that regard.

Katir family in the Publications building with Yogi Japendranatha.

Indian Ocean Monastery
Gurudeva’s spiritual center in the island country of Mauritius
in the Indian Ocean near South Africa

Welcome to the Spiritual Park! Lord Muruga Blesses us as we go down the property. From there we can see the waves rolling and feel the cooling sea breeze over our face. A wonderful sight indeed! As from April next this place will have a new look. Plans are in motion to construct a Mandapam for Lord Muruga there.

Here we see Brahmachari Vel Mahalingum. He comes to the Park almost every Saturday to clean the huge black granite murthis. He is happy doing this seva regularly. While Brahmachari is busy, elsewhere on the property classes for children are being held at the Ganesha Mandapam…..

This is a role play going on from one of the Lessons of Book Two of the Master Course Saivite Hindu Religion. The lesson is on the importance and role of the Satguru in someone’s life. One student, wearing a red shawl is playing the role of the Sat Guru while others are quietly listening to his words of wisdom….

The key concept here is that everyone needs to follow a Satguru when one seeks to realise God. This is because the Satguru knows the way and has seen God! The children are now playing “Follow the Satguru Game” adapted for them. The Satguru is leading the way because He knows best the spiritual path. The child playing this role has a string tied around his waist and others are holding it from behind. The rule is: Everyone holds the string and follow it!

Sometimes this spiritual journey is challenging! They have to lovingly go over obstacles on their way. But the Guru has already gone through all this, so…no problem…

Here is God Siva! Beautiful and shining too! The children are discovering this Sivalingum for the first time among the ferns. It was placed there purposely for this game…

Now everyone sits down to meditate on Lord Siva… The game is over but the concept of the Satguru grasped by the children is everlasting.

Gurudeva writes:” Book Two was finished during my 65-day Rajayoga Yatra, a pilgrimage through India, Malaysia and Singapore begun in December, 1995. It reflects the feedback on Book One, as well as my observations on the needs of the Hindu children in Asia and countries of Europe and the Americas. Children should study each lesson well, and be responsive to their teachers, understand the words and beautifully color the pictures…”

This is our little cute student Iraivan. A wonderful name meaning “God”… Today is Iraivan’s birthday and he brought sweets for all of his friends.

This is another game on the nature of the soul. The concept here is to differentiate between the soul and the physical body….

Each student was given a paper bag and was asked to draw one’s physical body on it.. some drawings look fancy and funny…. the children are happy and are learning serious things too. Then they carefully place their hand inside the bag and make it move…. real Muppet show. The hand represents the soul. Without the soul the physical body is nothing. The soul never dies and is a body of light…. You can play this game with your kids too at home. It’s simple and easy. Why not try it at breakfast table? You will be teaching them a wonderful lesson about their true nature as explained in Book Two.

Here is how the class sometimes looks like when the students are drawing or copying from the whiteboard. They have Hatha Yoga session on each Saturday, too.

Innersearchers Michael Floyd Duncan and his 10-year old son, Michael Inthawong Duncan, alias “Moose” as he prefers to be called. They are from Thailand. Dad is a long time student of Gurudeva’s teachings and married a Thai woman and Moose is one of their children. They were strong participants and Moose was ever an intelligent charming and well-behaved young man, a credit to his father. Moose is a big healthy lad for his age and he did have the hollowest leg we have seen in a long time and usually started with desert first. His father always had a philosophical look on things and a strong bond of love he had created with his son through a patient and supportive attitude that was an inspiration to watch.

Mary Beth Harnett is from Ohio. Mary has been reading Gurudeva’s teachings for several years and visited Kauai several times. This is her first trip to India.

This was one of our favorites signs in India, placed over an entry way at the Ananda Ashram in Pondicherry.
