This was a regular scene through the years: Gurudeva departing for a trip to some far off place like Canada, India, Germany or Australia. Sannyasin Muruganathaswami our travel coordinator would always be on hand for the mandatory final visual check:

Sivajnani and Amala Nagappan are here on Kauai staying with Amala’s mother and father, Kulapati and Kulamata Deva and Tara Katir. The Nagappans live in Malaysia. Sivajnani is a teacher who specializes in private tutoring. He has a great reputation for inspiring young people in the learning process and is in much demand by parents eager for their children to excel in school. This is a critical issue in Asian countries where seats at institutions of higher learning are much fewer than the number of high-school graduates and where acceptance in foreign universities requires top grades from applicants. Sivajnani is also much in demand by expatriot residents in Malaysia: people from UK, Australia etc. who want their children to get the highest standards of education. The family is taking a break and Amala is going to stay with her family here on quiet Kauai for a few months before returning to life in the big, busy, beautiful city of Kuala Lumpur.

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Chandran and Sahanadevi Param who have become Vrata Sishya in Saiva Siddhanta Church. This is a big step in their religious and spiritual lives. They have legally changed their names to Saivite names, taken the Tithing, Vegetarian and Paramapara Vratas (vows), and also agreed to follow the 51 most important Sutras and completed various other membership requirements. Here they are with Bodhinatha and their two sons, Bhajana and little Jeyendra. The two boys are always the life of the party when they come to the Aadheenam, being full of energy and extremely active while at the same time they have the wonderful gift of being quiet. It may be very different at home were we to ask his mother…

Welcome to the great family of Saiva Siddhanta Church, Chandran, Sahanadevi, Bhajana and Jeyendra! It’s always wonderful to have another addition to the great satsang of dedicated souls on the path of spiritual transformation working to live and be an example of the life of Saiva dharma!

Yesterday we did our best to get a photo shoot at our Nepali Ganesha entrance to the monastery, for Hinduism Today, of a family posing to show the concept of adults working to pass dharma on to their children. Tuhina Nagappan was fairly cooperative, while her older brother, the usually bright and enthusiastic Yajatadeva, buried his head in his father’s shoulder every time we pointed the camera at him. This was for an article in Hinduism Today highlighting a new program to help dharma in the US. See below for the full article and become a supporter today!

Fuel Hindu Dharma!

US Youth Now Eligible to be

eScrip Hinduism Today Beneficiaries

Are you concerned about the fate of dharma in the hands of the next generation of American born Hindus? Ever wonder why so few teenagers show up at our US temples? Did you ever ask, “How can we educate Hindu youth, pass the traditions into their hands?” We have an answer. Become an eScrip supporter of Himalayan Academy Publications. A percentage of every dollar you spend at participating merchants will go to support free subscriptions to Hinduism Today for youth between the ages of 13 and 21. We know after twenty years of experience that young Hindus “weaned” on Hinduism Today from childhood grow up proud Hindus. Now you can help make this happenbig time!

What is eScrip?

The concept is simple, and thousands of non-profits are already making the program successful. For example, if you become a Safeway Club card holder, whenever you purchase $100.00 worth of groceries, Safeway will automatically transfer $2.00 of their income to the Himalayan Academy eScrip account. This revenue is then used to fund free Hinduism Today subscriptions to youth. It costs you nothing; the merchant pays it all! Your normal household purchases can support Hinduism in the US. Percentages vary among particpating merchants. For example, Sharper Image gives as much as 10% of your purchase to the eScrip beneficiary of your choice. Just 1,000 supporters could fund 4,000 free subscriptions to Hindu youth in the US!

  • Signing up is easy. Become a supporter today!
  • Go to http://www.eScrip.com and click on “Sign Up.”
  • Enter “Himalayan Academy” or our ID number: 708335
  • Click “Search” and choose the “Himalayan Academy” line.
  • Click “Next” to go through the six steps
  • At step four you register credit and debit cardsyou are NOT charged anything. When you use the cards at participating merchants, you are only charged for the cost of the items you are purchasing, nothing more. A small percentage of your purchase is sent by the merchant to Himalayan Academy’s eScrip account. There are no gimmicks; no extra cost for you.
  • You can also sign up by mail. E-mail or call to request forms: subscribe@hindu.org; phone toll free in US: 1-888-464-1008.
  • It really works. Let corporate America do a good thing for Hinduismsign up today for the sake of tomorrow!

Here and there around our property. we have placed small images of Lord Ganesha inside the trunks of trees. Over time they will be completely embedded inside the trees. But wait! Is this a big tree or a little tree? Can you tell?

Aaaa HA! It is a bonsai created from a piece of banyan from a large tree placed in this flat and then carefully nurtured by Tandu Sivanathan to produce a mini-banyan tree which he has gifted to the Aadheenam.

Here is our Rishi Valley, a small secluded area surrounding a pond formed by the stream that passes down through San Marga on it’s way to the Wailua River. Just east of the Iraivan Temple, the area is dedicated to the line of Gurus and will be developed over the years as a quiet place where devotees can come to tune into the illustrious Kailasa Paramapara. All is quiet again as most of our pilgrims have returned home and the monks are back on their regular schedule of sadhana and sivathondu.
