Gurudeva kept his finger on the pulse of all the activities of the Aadheenam and the monks freely shared everything that went on with him.

Gurudeva’s statement on September 11th

Bodhinatha gave a wonderful talk today on the subject of anger. A common complaint that is often received by him from various individuals is that they are unable to deal with their anger. Bodhinatha compiled an excellent selection on the subject from all of Gurudeva’s writings.

Sadhaka Tyaganatha does a remarkable job in decorating for the weekly homa.

There is always something magical in using fire to worship the fire. Indeed, at this point in the homa/puja, the flames from the fire altar dance and one can easily visualize a living being has been invoked to be worshipped.

This wonderful newly wed couple, both originally from Sri Lanka, Varathan and Rajini have come to Kauai just after their wedding on May 25. She is currently living in Toronto, Canada and came with her parents to Kauai several years ago. When she got married she made Kauai Aadheenam her first destination. He works with Nortel and they will be moving to Ottawa soon.

Bodhinatha blesses the couple with a shawl, just as Gurudeva had done in the past to 100’s of couples who came to have their union blessed at this sacred place.

The newly weds also received a copy of Living with Siva as a guide for their future.

The couple were given a grand tour of San Marga. Here Varathan offers abhishekam to the giant Narmada Lingam that is installed outdoors on the Path of the Saiva Saints.

It is a beautiful setting, where worship of Siva is filled with the element of water.

Another lovely couple also came for puja, Mr. and Mrs. Sitaraman from Chennai, now doing their PHD in Minnesota. They have managed to stay pure veegan while at school away from Mother India.

Iraivan Wonders

The ninth course is complete and Sthapati is anxious to bring in the sand to protect the delicate ornamentation of these two courses. The first day of our three-day full moon retreat was Iraivan Day and all the monks were out in full force working on temple projects.

On the corner of the square base you can barely see the small head of a snake that is carved… this little “naga” could be easily chipped by falling stones or tools if not covered in sand.

Our team scouts the place where the forklift will approach the structure.

Yoginathaswami mans the forklift which is outfitted with a scoop/bucket.

Up goes the sand and then he approachs the edge of the retaining wall and gently sets down the bucket.

The team offloads the sand.

It’s quite a big job, but a crucial one. Not only does the sand provide protection, but it provides a working surface that is level with the current courses as the structure rises.

Meanwhile another team is doing a big clean up of the whole work site.
