We will continue to share from time to time tributes to our beloved Gurudeva. Since the distribution of the Gurudeva Memorial issue of Hinduism Today more are arriving here is a wonderful letter from one of his students:

“Dear Satguru Bodhinatha and Hinduism Today:
I have read the article “Maha Samadhi at 74.” 1 feel so sad that Gurudeva passed on. I am forever grateful to him for all of his wonderful and loving work. My life has been blessed because of his great teachings.

Today I will say a prayer and thank God for blessing us with such a fine satguru, mentor and great teacher. When I gaze upon the stars, I shall see Gurudeva’s shinning spirit. He was a light to so many, dispelling darkness and ignorance. He was the light of wisdom, compassion, dignity and respect for all human beings, especially women and children. When I behold the sun, I shall see Gurudeva’s soul-brilliant, loving and inspiring. When I touch the ocean, I shall remember Gurudeva’s depth of perception and caring heart. I have never met Gurudeva in person, but his teachings enabled me to become a better woman-a woman of tolerance, caring, humility, and empowerment. I realized that we are all special and that each human being has the potential to make the world P. better place by being kinder, gracious, patient and giving to charities no matter how small. Gurudeva has taught me that the individual can make a difference. He was never afraid to speak up against social injustices perpetuated against women and children.

Gurudeva’s spirit will live on forever in all of us. When we act in the spirit of kindness, love purity, and tolerance, we are keeping our memories of Gurudeva alive. When we share his teachings with others, we are giving people a view of a very wonderful Hindu Heritage. No matter what religious tradition one is-spiritual knowledge and graciousness taught by a great teacher is a gift our world so desperately needs.

Gurudeva was or I should say is the light for Hindus and Non Hindus throughout the world. He truly is a light to many. May he forever dwell within our hearts.

Love and Peace,

Here is Bodhinatha in the Mahogony Room which was Gurudeva office before him. He carries on the mission. With regard to our readers comments above about wisdom and compassion, Bodhinatha is developing some very useful modes of “real life implementation” of many of Gurudeva’s teachings. Please read his wonderful pamphlet called “Nine Key Qualities to
Cultivate in Children.”

Title: Yamas and Niyamas part 2 Foundation

Category: Yamas and Niyamas

Duration: 6 minutes, 26 seconds

Date Given: May 5, 2002

Cybertalk: Today many people interested in a spiritual path say “Forget the
basics, let’s just start with the end of the path.” Of course this approach
doesn’t work very well because they don’t have a foundation. Gurudeva said
that the yamas and niyamas are an important foundation to sustain the bliss
of meditation and yoga. He said the fact is the higher we go the lower we
can go. When our mastery of the yamas and niyamas is good, then we don’t
fall down.

This is Paramacharya Ceyonswami talking with V.R. Veerappan (right) and Seethai Veerappan (left) and Nachammai (center) Meyyappan. They are Chettiar Tamils who have been living in New Jersey for 24 years, and now he is retiring and he and his wife Seethai will be going back to Tamil Nadu in August. Paramacharya Ceyonswami, when he heard 24 years said: “Oh, that is two cycles of Jupiter… the Guru must be calling you back to India.” Veerappan was surprised to hear that because, in fact he is going back to India to serve his Guru’s cause during his retirement and to pursue a life of sadhana and service in his latter years.

After Siva puja, Sadhaka Tyaganatha meditates directly under the uplifted left foot of Lord Nataraja. Our tradition of Saiva Siddhanta is so wonderful in its integration of the mysticism of the Hindu temple and the practices of profound raja yoga.

With warming weather lovely lilies adorn the ponds with bright blossoms uplifted with their faces to the sun, unabashedly surrendering to the light they seek that nurtures their life and beauty. Pray that we ourselves can always be so intelligent in our inner bearing.

The incredibly beautiful torch ginger blossom boldly displays its formal red form only to soon turn brown, dry up and fall to the ground and fulfill it’s purpose: to become a vessel of seeds for the future of its species.

Title: Is the Divorce of a marriage like the bankruptcy of a business? Part 2
Category: Family
Duration:
Given By: Gurudeva

So an answer to the question from a cyber space devotee, a very nice question – “Is a divorce similar or the same as going out of business or bankruptcy?”

The answer is – Yes, it is, because in both cases – the divorce or bankruptcy – everyone is the loser. The employees are losers, the children are losers, the suppliers are losers, everyone is a loser, and everyone takes sides.

In case of a marriage, the friends of a husband take his side, the friends of a wife take her side, and there is a division. Sometimes the courts take the side of the children, and the children are divided. In the case of the business, the employers take sides, the partnership breaks up and they take sides, and their friends take sides. It is the breakdown of the community, it is the breakdown of society, but it is the creation of a lot of very bad karma that has to be worked out in this or probably, in a future life.

There’s great loss in the case of a marriage that breaks up or a business that breaks up and the loss is – trust in the individuals concerned. They lose their ability to trust each other, to trust themselves and of course, no one trusts them.

Within the great Sanatana Dharma we have the astrological compatibility between a man and a woman, the ability to understand the children, between business partners and employees. If that is employed and dharma is obeyed, success is assured.

Well, thank you for your very nice questions. Cyberspace devotees, do ask more questions. It is good to speak to the needs of the moment.
