Gurudeva first began publishing in San Francisco in the early 60’s and himself printed the first Master Course lessons on a small office mimeograph machine. Since those days the course evolved with the times. But the core of the teaching remained the same.

We are happy to announce for those who aren’t already aware, that our San Diego server is now back in service. This means that the past archives, search engine, cybertalks index, daily email verses and daily Master Course lessons, are all back up and running.

Today was our Sun One Homa. Bodhinatha delivered another lucid talk on Self-Realization and also talked about the process of personal growth and what it means to become “a loving person.” Listen for it in the days ahead.

Today we have another long talk for you… This will be the last of the “25-minute” sound files for a while as we are switching back to a shorter audio format in the days ahead. This will involve breaking some talks into pieces, so stay tuned to keep the continuity.

Title: Moksha, Realizing God

Category: The Ultimate Goals of Life

Duration: 26 minutes, 6 seconds

Date Given: February 6, 2002

Date Posted: February_21_2002

Given by: Bodhinatha

Cybertalk: There is a misconception that one day we are experiencing zero
percent God, then the next moment we are experiencing 100 percent God.
Enlightenment doesn’t just happen in an instant. The simplest way to see God is
to see God in a saintly person. Another way to see God in everyone’s eyes.
It’s there if you look deeply enough. And there are more ways such as yoga
and meditation–looking inside at the soul. We are a soul and need to
identify with our soul. Even deeper, “I” is God. The first obstacle to the
Self is saying to ourselves that we are not ready. Be ready ever moment
because it is beyond time, form and space. The Self is a nonexperience.
Progress on the spiritual path, is just going a bit deeper inside.

Cybertalk Ends”

The radiance of the fire reminds us of this wonderful verse from the Rig Veda which is in praise of the “Tejas” (Brilliance, the Shining) of the sun.

Diffusing glory with your rays,
you have scaled the shining realm of heaven.
By you are supported all things that are,
O God All-Creator, essence all-divine.

On our “day off” which is one of the retreat days we call “Guha day,” each month we take the silpis for an outing. These men work hard, six days a week (like the monks do…) This week they went to the Northshore and our photographer captures some of the resplendent areas of Kauai that are famed throughout the world. The group went for a short hike up the side of the north cliffs at the end of the road. Here is Silpi Andiappan Palaiyah standing on the hiking trail high above the crystal waters…

Karuppaiah Alakappan watches the sea. During the winter the swells from the north sea can be quite spectacular.

Sundaram Gomathiasari (left) and Stapathi Shanmugam Sundararajan decided they weren’t into a hiking mode and stayed close to the shoreline.

Chinnu Perumal, the cook and assistant to the silpis serves up a picnic lunch of fabulous idlis, vadai and coconut chutney.

Here’s the whole team with Skandanathaswami. Sadhaka Thondunatha is behind the camera.

Shanmugam Sthapati at the Kilaueha Lighthouse which gives a fantastic vista of the sea and shore lines of Kauai. His trip to India was fruitful for the temple. Not only did he take care of his son’s wedding but he also spent some very important days at the carving site, conferring with the architects there and coordinating important matters that are difficult to deal with at a distance. Upon returning to Kauai he has been very expressive of the greatness of this temple project and how proud he is to be a part of fulfilling Gurudeva’s mission. Please give generously to support our wonderful stone carvers, their families, the children and manifest the “Wish Fulfilling Temple, the Place Where the World Comes to Pray: Iraivan.”

Indian Ocean Monastery
Gurudeva’s spiritual center in the island country of Mauritius
in the Indian Ocean near South Africa

After worshiping Lord Ganesha at the Ganesha Mandapam, Lord Siva in the Konrai grove, visitors walk down the property to reach the large granite murthi of Lord Muruga that overlooks the ocean. Here it is always windy and sunny. There used to be a sand quarry just a few metres down the shore. Now it is closed and one won’t hear the disturbing noise of truck engines and workers speaking loudly…. This place is an ideal place for worship and meditation. Lord Skanda the kundalini force controller, is here to help the meditator.

Every month the members of the Spiritual Park worship around a sacred homa to invoke the inner worlds to sanctify and bless visitors at the Park. During the Homa nine different grains and ghee are ceremoniusly offered into the fire. Here we see a group of kulapatis and their families chanting around the sacred fire.

Kulapatis meditate when tthe mantra has been chanted 108 times… Their new project is to now organise a special Ganesha ceremony on the first Sunday of every month for the public as from 10: 00 am….. You are most welcome to attend.

Gurudeva’s vision for Mauritus is being fulfilled. Teaching the Master Course series and the Saivite Trilogy is now one of the major Church activities in the island. A special weekly class is being organised for the youth at the Saiva Dharmasala on Saturdays. Here we see the younger ones of the Mushika group learning their first alphabet or image of the Shum language, a special language of meditation which was mystically revealed to Gurudeva. Children enjoy learning the sounds and colors of Shum.

Hatha yoga is also one of the regular activities during these learning sessions taught according to a specific system of body tuning and preparation for meditation devised by Gurudeva Sivaya Subramuniyaswami. It is a lot of fun as well as serious effort for the youth, who are at present learning a particular set of asanas at a time. They are being gently trained to visualise the corresponding color of each set of asanas. Here the youth are doing the janu sirshana, head to knee pose. In this set, they are being trained to visualize marigold orange for pure, selfless service.
