Gurudeva’s Statement — Attack on America

Gurudeva in his private quarters in the second story of the monastery building talking with Paramacharya Ceyonswami. In subtle ways, Gurudeva would teach by example the selfless path… one of these was his amazing openess. Even though it was “his” room, he was always open to monks coming to see him at any time. “Did you want to see me?” he would ask with a smile… We all had to restrain ourselves, to make sure he would have some time alone to himself, but he rarely asked for it… Occasionally, if he did, it was because he had “inner work to do.” Once, when a devotee was in the hospital in Malaysia, facing a life threatening operation, Gurudeva was watching from afar and was with him on the inside… Lunch had been served and everyone was waiting for Gurudeva to come… someone went to see him. He was lying on his couch, fully alert, but eyes closed. We said “Lunch is ready, Gurudeva…” He responded: “You all go ahead… I am with Murugesu now…”

FYI: Yesterday: December 26th, TAKA was not uploaded due to some connection problems. Note, the guests you see below actually came to the Aadheenam yesterday on the 26th.

Holidays in Hawaii for a devout Hindu family means coming to Kauai Aadheenam for blessings and quality spiritual time with the Aadheenam Kartar, Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami. Bodhinatha has years of experience working closely with Gurudeva, handling the karmas of the families. These are lucky children who have the “purva bhagya punyam” a good karma from a past life which brought them to the feet of the Kailasa Paramapara…

Cybertalk: Bodhinatha talks about rain and water and their importance. We live by a river at the Aadheenam and it offers a lot: the mystical teaching of the soul’s merger in Siva like a rain drop merging in the ocean. The river offers us the opportunity for Ganga Sadhana. A way to clear the blockages that impede the flow of consciousness. The river teaches us about the River of Life which Gurudeva talks about in Merging with Siva; it teaches us to let go attachments, flow with the river of life. Ask yourself, “Are we totally at peace and content?” If not, then perform Ganga Sadhana. Ask “How is our timing?” Are we attuned to life or out of synch with it? Get more energy flowing through you. Get rid of your attachments.

A busy day at Kauai Aadheenam! How wonderful to see entire families traveling together. It reminds us of one of the great strengths of Hinduism which is its high regard for family unity.

Here is the Sivaraja family from Scarborough, Ontario having a tour after the morning Siva puja.

Muruganathaswami is one of our senior monks and takes care of important financial matters for Saiva Siddhanta Church. He also overseas the monastic travel for the monastery and silpis. One of his most important functions is to watch over the wholesale distribution of Gurudeva’s books. Periodically he will give his inspiring reports on the sales of Merging with Siva, Dancing with Siva etc through the mainstream channels like Barnes and Noble. Gurudeva books continue to move out in a steady stream to the world…

Shanmuga Sthapati usually maintains a very supervisory position with the silpis, standing back giving directions. This is important and he must maintain in his mind a mental picture of the finished temple and be assured that every single move the team makes is error free… Here the team watches carefully as he takes a measurement of stone levels, while visitors in the background admire the carving.

Raman is a sweet and very strong man, as all stone carvers tend to be. Here he gathers stones which will be hand placed in the space between the inner and outer sanctum walls.

Shanmuga Stapathi takes the stones tossed up from below and throws them into the center of the sanctum which is now full of sand and rising slowly… nearly above head height… progress!

Saiva Siddhanta Church Malaysia Mission

We continue with more photos from Gurudeva’s memorial gathering in Malaysia. Here is the invitation prepared cooperatively by the Malaysian Hindu Sangam, Saiva Siddhanta Church and the Malaysian Ceylon Saivites Association.

‘Kolam’ by the youth of Saiva Siddhanta Church, Malaysia.

Here is a transcription some of the talks given that night:

Introduction: Sri So.Paramsothi, General Secretary, Malaysian Hindu Sangam

“Gurudeva attained Maha Samadhi on November 13, 2001. We are all gathered here to pay homage to Gurudeva, Satguru Sivaya Subramuniya Swami. He is known to all Hindus of this country, as well as other parts of the world. He is known to the world as a great preacher of Hinduism. His books are gifts to all Hindus throughout the world. I hope all the devotees will pay due respect to our beloved Gurudeva.”

Chairman’s Address :

Sri A.Vaithilingam, President,
Malaysian Hindu Sangam

Thanks to all who are present for the support to make this ceremony a successful one. I am very proud indeed that you all have come here to respect a great Jnani, Gurudeva. It was on the November 13, 2001 that His Holiness Sivaya Subramuniya Swami attained Maha Samadhi. It was indeed a very sad occasion.

His teachings were very simple, in simple language and touched the hearts of young and old. I, for example, benefited very much from his teachings. What more, he was from a community whom we always regarded as white American. He had come all the way to Bombay, India, went on to Sri Lanka, found his Guru, Sage Yogaswami. As a disciple of Sage Yogaswami, he has spread the message of his Guru.

It is very interesting to note the simple language of the songs that were sung just a while ago. A very simple language which all of you could understand. I will give you a translation in English, of Sage Yogaswami’s sayings.

“See God in everybody. You are in God, God is within you. To realize the Supreme Being within you, you must have a strong body and a pure mind. God is love. God is truth.”

This is the type of philosophy, the background which we have seen. Many of us here spend so much time on rituals, not understanding the meaning behind them and the very rich philosophy behind our own faith. [continued]

Arati by the Temple Priest

Sri A.Vaithilingam, cont:

Swamiji had sent his disciples to Malaysia, in the late 70’s. As a Hindu Sangam member and also a Hindu Youth Leader at that time, I met the disciples near the Sangeetha Abhivrithi Sabha, teaching the young students Under the leade4rship of his disciples who went round the country. Then in early 80’s, I had the wonderful opportunity of obtaining the blessings of the Swamiji, in this very same temple. Since 1984, the connection and coordination between the youth and the Hindus in this country with Swamiji had become stronger.

We were very fortunate when in early ’90, Swamiji visited the Lakshmi Narayanan Temple. Hindu Sangam was organizing discourses on the ‘Bhagavad Gita’, and ‘Ramayana’.

I wish to express his wish here. He always wanted to know what is happening to the training of priests in Malaysia. He asked when we were going to establish the padasala. I told him we are making attempts. Fortunately, our Honorable Minister Dato Sri has agreed to assist in this and I hope in the very near future that wish of Swamiji will be achieved.

Pictured left:- Thiru A. Vaithilingam (President , Malaysia Hindu Sangam, who is giving this speech…..continued:)

I wish to tell you a interesting story, which I found while going through the history of the Jeganatha Ashram in Tapah, the biography of Sri Jeganath himself. It was in 1951, in fact, that Sri Jeganath Chitramuthu Adigalar, our Sathiyananda Swami, Malaysia and another sage from Indonesia, whom I did not know called upon Mr. Guruswami, the clerk of Sri Maha Mariamman Temple of Taiping. They told him to please get in touch with Chitramuthu Adigalar who was now visiting Sri Lanka to pay homage to Yogaswami. He said that there is going to be an American Swami named Subramuni Swami, who will spread Saivism and Hinduism throughout the world!

Really took me by surprise! This is in the letter which was written and signed by three trustees of the Sri Jeganath Ashram. So that goes on to show the prophecy which has materialized.

In this way, I think we Malaysians are blessed that we have had the blessings of Gurudeva. We look forward to achieving the visions Swami had of spreading the Hinduism, and in later years of playing very important role in uniting Hindus through ‘Hinduism Today’ . We hope that his visions will be achieved.

Today we have the opportunity to recall Gurudeva’s accomplishments. When Gurudeva visited Malaysia in 1980, the Hindu Sangam got Gurudeva’s blessings through the President of Hindu Sangam Dr.S.M. Ponniah. The Malaysia Hindu Sangam had long term connection with Gurudeva. Even now, Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami, who was appointed as his successor, has sent blessings. Saiva Siddhanta Church approached us to have this memorial gathering meeting. We agreed upon this to be organized by the Malaysian Hindu Sangam, Saiva Siddhanta Church and Malaysian Ealankayar Saiva Sangam. Later, many other religious bodies approached us for not calling them to involve in this great event. As far as we are concerned, all other Hindu societies are under the umbrella of Malaysian Hindu Sangam. We are proud that every Hindu Society or Sangam has interest in Gurudeva.

This event is very successful with the help and cooperation of all the Hindu Societies. I thank everybody for their cooperation. The Malaysian Hindu Sangam wishes to thank Dato Sri S.Samy Vellu for attending our ceremony, despite his official visit to Japanese Embassy for an important function. Dato Sri S.Samy Vellu has helped Kauai Aadheenam and Gurudeva.

We, Malaysians, are very fortunate that though we sometimes have misunderstanding we forget them and work together when we have this type of function. This is what Gurudeva wished to see among the Hindus of this country and throughout the world. I believe the Hindus of Malaysia will follow the footsteps of Gurudeva.

I thank you.
