Gurudeva’s Statement — Attack on America

“Life is meant to be lived joyously!” was one of Gurudeva’s often quoted statements. Here he is with his successor on the left, Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami and his communications secretary in the back Sannyasin Shanmuganathaswami… Gurudeva’s high standards, that we should live every moment as a soul being, never meant that we should be somber, pompous beings… living in the soul nature means being full of love, childlike wonder, seeing Siva in everyone, taking delight in the gifts of life, giving to others whatever we can.

ANNOUNCEMENT! The 2002 INNERSEARCH IS ON! Don’t miss it… right here on Kauai itself… Summer of 2002…. have a vacation in paradise at a powerful spiritual pilgrimage center. See the news banner below, and leave your e-mail for us to give you futher details.

Happy Pancha Ganapati! The monks celebrated Pancha Ganapati in the courtyard at lunch today with a simple puja and some special holiday treats sent by the families: cookies and chocolates! Sadhaka Mahadevan is holding a small picture frame that each monk received to keep a photo of Gurudeva.

Timmaraju Manileti and his wife came for the holidays from Denver, Colorado.

Prabhu and Radhika Ambatipudi also came this week from Reseda, California. They are software engineers at a hospital. Subscribers to Hinduism Today, they purchased Dancing with Siva both in English and also the Marathi edition and a copy of the Tirukkural.

Here we have, on the left, Mr. and Mrs. Rajendra Pradhan and their two children from Pennington, New Jersey standing with Prabhu and Radhika… the Pradhan family also took home some of Gurudeva’s books.

Our Sadhaka Thondunathan is ever on the move…working to fulfill and complete Gurudeva’s Iraivan Temple vision, the vision of a place so pure and filled with Siva Consciousness that it has the power to transform lives. As Gurudeva says in the Master Course, a Siva temple is a place “so sacred that Sacredness itself can dwell there.” Tirelessly and always with a big smile, Thondunathan keeps up a steady stream of mail and communications to the huge family of Iraivan temple donors around the world. Some 6,000 souls have contributed from 10 cents (little children in Mauritius) to over $100,000.00. He welcomes and needs all of your prayers and support, your help and your generous donations! We need your support to manifest Gurudeva’ vision of this magnificent edifice… the Iraivan Temple, the place where the world comes to pray. Contact iraivan@hindu.org for details on participating.

We are experiencing a break in the rains with full sun these past two days. It’s a cool 70 degrees F. outside during the day and a chilly 60 in the early morning, crisp and refreshing. This is a great shot… Mount Waialeale is clear in the background and the Iraivan Temple is visible just beyond the flag pole. Why don’t you make this your pilgrimage destination? It is a mystical place, every stone, every rock and walk, is all the grace of our beloved Gurudeva and the Kailasa Paramparai. We are truly blessed. Come with the whole family for worship and sadhana in the morning at the temple and then relax and sit in peaceful contemplation by the beautiful waters of the Pacific in the afternoon and evening…

The silpis have finished jointing both the inner and outer walls of course number 6 and now begin the process of filling in the space between them with concrete and stones… this is all a hand done process as the silpis want to make sure there are no empty spaces in the mortar mix that fills the inner walls of the sanctum. The photos seems to be at ground level, but this craftsman is working on the seventh layer, about seven feet above the temple floor level.

The silpis teach us the simple way of life… here is a coconut husk broom that is used to sweep clean the stones.

Gurudeva’s Malaysian Spiritual Family of Devotees

Although we do not have a dharmasala or monastery in Malaysia, it is one of Gurudeva’s great strongholds and his devotees there are really a lion-hearted, dedicated family of souls. Over the years Gurudeva and the monks have been coming and going from this very beautiful country, with its many lovely and spiritually powerful temples, which are well maintained and run by Malaysia Hindus. An ancient land, one can feel the spiritual presence of a civilized people that reaches back over 2,000 years. There is historical evidence that Hinduism had a presence here as early as 400 CE. The country is also technologically advanced and “on the move.”

The Malaysian devotees are real “movers and shakers” and have matured under Gurudeva guidance over the years. Recently they organized a memorial for Gurudeva, in coordination with the Malaysian Hindu Sangam and the Selangor Saivites Association, which drew a large crowd. Sivaneswaran sends us pictures and captions and in a few days we will be posting some of the speeches by VIP’s at the function.

This is the entrance to the Kalamandapam ( The Hall – Beside the Scott Road Murugan Temple in Kuala Lumpur) One of the uplfting things about Hindu architecture in Malaysia is it’s colorfully painted structures.

The Sri Kanthasamy Temple beside the hall.

Natchintanai, Yogaswami’s songs, sung by the children and youth of Saiva Siddhanta Church, Malaysia Mission.

Swami Guhabhakthanatha Saraswathi Maharaj prostrates to Gurudeva.

Memorial Speech by H.H.Swami Guhabakthanatha Saraswathi Maharaj (President, Divine Life Society Malaysia). Swamiji and Gurudeva had a wonderful relationship and Gurudeva respected Swami’s work at the Divine Life Society, which he is head of in Malaysia. Gurudeva would encourage young Malaysia men interested in monastic life to go and stay with Swami Guhabakthanatha as part of their novitiate training before coming to Kauai Aadheenam. Then Gurudeva would talk with Swami about how the young man was doing, and Swamiji in turn would set the young seeker on the right path.

Paying Tribute to Gurudeva – Y.B. Dato’ Seri Dr. S.Samy Vellu Malaysia Government Minister for Works and President of the Malaysian Indian Congress party. Dato is a major supporter of Iraivan Temple and of Gurudeva’s mission in Malaysia.

It was a packed hall of over 500 souls who had been touched by Gurudeva.

More pictures from the function will be posted tomorrow.
