Gurudeva’s Statement — Attack on America

The publications team is in the middle of a massive research project. We have gone through literally 20,000 plus images (maybe even more!) from our archives in preparation for Gurudeva’s Hinduism Today memorial issue. Starting with the India Innersearches in the early 80’s and the opening up of Mauritius, Malaysia and Singapore and numerous US tours, Gurudeva moved to the forefront of the Hindu world. Here is a photo of Gurudeva from that period, in full stride, somewhere in India.

TAKA VIEWER POLL:

Ideal Length of Audio

We are happy to announce that we have a few new gadgets here that are making it easier to capture audio, prepare and deliver audio on the web and Bodhinatha is giving some wonderful inspired talks. We also anticipate uncovering audio of Gurudeva from our archives in the future. We wanted to do a poll and ask our viewers what really works for you.

Please take a moment and send an email to studyhall@hindu.org with answers to the following questions.

  1. Would it be OK with you if we posted audio files as long as 18 minutes? (that would be an 8.2 Megabyte WAV file!) This would keep a single talk intact as a single audio session.
  2. Do you prefer shorter talk segments?
  3. If you do prefer shorter audio, why?
  4. If we were to set a maximum time for a single audio file… what you suggest that be, given your modem speed and computer: 2 minutes? 4 minutes? 6 minutes 8 minutes? 10 Minutes?

We especially want to hear from all of Gurudeva’s sishya and students on this matter as this is the primary audience for this web site.

Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami is a remarkably calm, centered and discriminating soul, the perfect man for the job of carrying on with Gurudeva’s mission. As they did with Gurudeva, the monks come to him to consult and ask for guidance on their work and any issues they have on their minds. By staying attuned with Gurudeva’s successor, we all stay on track and success is assured.

Sanjay, Shailaja and their little girl arrived today on pilgrimage from Singapore. They were one of the few couples that were fortunate to be married in Kadavul Temple, 10 years ago, when Pujari Tirthadeva Peruman was here from Fiji.

Now that Living with Siva is published, Himalayan Academy is actively developing its correspondence study program. Since the 1960’s, Gurudeva has had his “Master Course” which consisted of a guided home study and often a rigorous testing and self-evaluation program, side-by-side with personal guidance, annual innersearches and pilgrimages to the Aadheenam. Sannaysin Saravananathaswami is heading up the Himalayan Academy desk and is here working on a questions and answers test for “Level 1” of the Master Course.

Here are 47 binders full of photos. Managing editor Sannyasin Arumugaswami and his assistant, Sadhaka Jivanandanatha are reviewing each and every image and making selections.

Silpi Andiappan at work on the Iraivan Temple. Although the stones are carved in India, when the time comes to do the “jointing” (joining stones, one to another) final details will need to be carved in to make the meeting of one stone and the next appear seamless. Your donations, not only build a temple, but support Andiappan and his family in India.

Innersearch postponed

Due to the horrific tragedies of September 11th, Himalayan Academy has indefinitely postponed the Canadian Innersearch scheduled to leave next July. Please be assured, we will re-schedule the Innersearch, but only when the present insecurity around the world settles down. Until then, if you are planning to go on a future Innersearch program, continue to set aside a little income each month in a special fund.
