Gurudeva’s Statement — Attack on America

Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami (on the right) is well noted for his concise and very practical discourses. And he is also a great fulfiller of this following teaching by Gurudeva:

Gurudeva says in Merging with Siva:

“Observation is the first faculty to appear in the awakening of the superconscious regions. Observation, when perceptively performed, is cultivated by abstinence from excessive talk. Talk dissipates the energies of the aura and of the vital body of man. A mystic generally does not talk very much, for his intuition works through reason, but does not use the processes of reason. Any intuitive breakthrough will be quite reasonable, but it does not use the processes of reason. Reason takes time. Superconsciousness acts in the now. All superconscious knowing comes in a flash out of the nowhere. Intuition is more direct than reason, and far more accurate. Therefore, the mystic does not ask many questions or enter into lengthy conversations.”

Our story of the final day of Gurudeva’s cremation, continues: Here, earlier in the day, devotees prepare decorations together…. the famous “Toranam” or hanging Coconut fronds.

Our silpis are masters of more than just stone carving, but also all aspects of temple decorations. Here they deftly weave a complete coconut palm branch into a mat.

After Gurudeva left the monastery we drove to Koloa and arrived at the Borthwick Mortuary. There the entrance to the mortuary was also done in a joyous, colorful procession. We have the following testimony from one of Gurudeva’s devotees who observed the trip to Koloa and the gathering, speeches, testimonials and presentions made at the memorial service just before the cremation:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“The great day has arrived and my thoughts are with all of the devotees and friends to Gurudeva. I love him so much… There was a great train of devotion on the way to the crematorium stopping traffic for miles. I kept thinking how lucky those motorists are to be stopped in honor of a saint.
“The service was beautiful with wonderful declarations by Gurudeva’s chosen ones, the leader of the Hindu monastery Satguru Bodinathaswami, Paramacharya Palaniswami, Paramacharya Ceyonswami. Satguru Bodinathaswami spoke calmly of the future. The peaceful and secure continuation of the great lineage of gurus. The work of the great new temple secure and ahead of schedule.
” The example of sharing of culture, education, love, and respect well founded by Gurudeva. An example of this sharing coming in the form of a message and salutation to Gurudeva and all his monks from the Dalai Lama. Now, the work of Gurudeva will continue by his successor Satguru Bodinathaswami, who repeated that all of Gurudeva’s chosen ones are trained well and “over qualified” even by Gurudeva’s celestial standards.
“Paramacharya Palaniswami flowing over with love, affection, and joy, telling a wonderful story of how Gurudeva is with us always, even in our dreams–bringing me to tears and laughter, and thankfulness for Palaniswami as a living example of pure love and compassion. Paramacharya Ceyonswami spoke from the Vedas making clear the spiritual nature of life: with action and meditation as working partners.
“Life with the ideas of the relative and the absolute as coexisting and equally essential. Life as explained by the enlightened ones who enlighten through the voice of clarity and truth, as does Ceyonswami.
Kauai Nursery and Landscaping provided many flowers for decoration, support flowing from everywhere on Kauai.
The Mayor Maryanne Kusaka spoke beautifully with deep friendship to Gurudeva, and provided thousands of flowers picked by the county workers, tossed joyously throughout the processions.
Hawaiian hula dancers from Roselle Bailey’s hulau performed, chanted, and remembered Gurudeva’s example of protection to all cultures particularly those of his beloved island Kauai. I feel Gurudeva especially enjoyed the dancing as he never missed a performance from the innersearch cruise-even jauntily sashaying in Fred Astair style after a performance he particularly liked… (to be continued tomorrow)
Iraivan Wonders
A small landmark operation is in progress on the Iraivan Temple site as the silpis begin final carving work on the fantastically beautiful doorway to the inner sanctum.
The front side of the doorway is done with the most intricate carving we have ever seen… now the back side, which will be joined to the sanctum itself must be carefully rounded to a semi-curved surface.
This doorway is made of black granite, a very dense stone. And as the silpis work on the stones which are raised on wooden blocks, each tap sounds like a bell that can be heard from far away.
This rounding process will take many days.
We had a pilgrim earlier this year, who, immediately upon seeing the doorway, unhesitatingly said “I will sponsor this!” It was a $20,000 committment. Thank you! Why don’t you also make a major decision to be a part of this great work on earth and help Gurudeva, who is now watching us from within, to finish the monumental ediface on the land where the world will come to pray? Write to iraivan@hindu.org for details on various items you can sponsor
Innersearch postponed
Due to the horrific tragedies of September 11th, Himalayan Academy has indefinitely postponed the Canadian Innersearch scheduled to leave next July. Please be assured, we will re-schedule the Innersearch, but only when the present insecurity around the world settles down. Until then, if you are planning to go on a future Innersearch program with Gurudeva, continue to set aside a little income each month in a special fund.
