How Do We Prepare for Death?

Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami reads from Lesson 34 of the Himalayan Academy publication "Path To Siva," explaining how Hindus prepare themselves for death. Bodhinatha explains that the soul never dies; only the physical body dies. Life and death is essential in orde r to achieve oneness with God. In preparation for death we settle all mundane or wordly matters; resolve conflicts; execute duties; seek forgiveness and make amends; let go of disagreements and then we turn inwardly, meditating and performing japa. In the final hours we seek self God whilst surrounded by families keeping prayerful vigil and strive to leave through the crown chakra.

The good-and-bad concept should be thrown out with a lot of other things, including the up-and-down concept. There is no good; there is no bad. You don't raise your consciousness, nor do you lower it.
