Objections to Marriage

We pray that we are not too late in putting up this response. A woman in Selangor, Malaysia, asks Gurudeva what to do regarding her desires to marry a certain man. His family is now objecting, and their situation has driven them both to tears. Gurudeva's answer is clear cut. He says that since both are now adults, the parents have missed their opportunity to arrange a marriage. It is too late now for them to object. Gurudeva says, "Go ahead with your plans and live a happy life."

Giving a gift begrudgingly in return for another gift is, of course, mere barter. Many families barter their way through life in this way, thinking they are giving. But such gifts are cold, the fulfillment is empty, and the law of karma pays discounted returns.
