Art for the Guru Chronicles was commissioned in 2001. S. Rajam, arguably South India’s most traditional and deeply informed artist, worked on the 55 canvases from 2002 to 2004. Each canvas was designed as a medley of stories for a particular time in history. For the final book, stories were taken from the canvas and enlarged. The original art was done in watercolors on special paper. S. Rajam had a style of adding a color, then washing it off, adding another layer and so on to build up depth in the work. He has told hundreds of stories in this collection, spiritual events in the life of the Kailasa Paramparai.
