The rich man asked Girija, “Why do you take it home?” Girija said, “My mother is also hungry. So I shared it with her.” The next day also Girija waited and took the last sweet. She gave it to her mother. Inside was a gold coin! Mother said, “Take this to the rich man. It is his.” So Girija took it back the same day. But the rich man said, “Keep it. I put it there as my reward for you. You are patient, generous and honest.”§
அந்தப் பணக்காரர் கிரிஜாவைப் பார்த்து "ஏன் வீட்டிற்கு எடுத்துச் செல்கிறாய்?" என்று கேட்டார். அதற்குக் கிரிஜா, "என் அம்மாவும் பசியாய் இருக்கிறார், ஆகையால் அவரோடு பகிர்ந்து கொள்வேன்" என்றாள். மறுநாளும் கிரிஜா காத்திருந்து கடைசி மோதகத்தை எடுத்துக் கொண்டாள். அதை அவள் தன் தாயாரிடம் கொடுத்தாள். அதனுள்ளே தங்க நாணயம்! "இது அந்த பணக்காரருடையது, அவரிடமே கொடுத்து விடு" என்று அவள் தாயார் கூறினார். கிரிஜாவும் அன்றே அந்தத் தங்க நாணயத்தை கொண்டு சென்றாள். அந்த பணக்காரர் "நீயே வைத்துக் கொள். நீ பொறுமை, இரக்கம், நேர்மை உள்ளவளாக இருப்பதால் நான் இதை உனக்குப் பரிசாகக் கொடுக்கிறேன்". என்றார்.§
Orang kaya itu bertanya kepada Girija, “Mengapa kamu membawa kuih ini ke rumah?” Girija pun menjawab “Emak saya juga lapar. Oleh itu kami akan memakannya bersama-sama.” Pada keesokan harinya, Girija sekali lagi menunggu dan mengambil kuih modaka yang terakhir. Dia telah memberikan kuih itu kepada emaknya. Di dalamnya terdapat sekeping duit syiling emas! Emaknya berkata, “Pulangkan duit ini kepada orang kaya itu. Duit ini adalah miliknya.” Maka Girija pun pergi berjumpa dengan orang kaya itu untuk memulangkan duit emas tersebut. Sebaliknya orang kaya itu berkata, “Sila simpan duit ini. Saya meletakkannya ke dalam kuih kamu dengan sengaja kerana kamu sabar, jujur dan bermurah hati.”§
«Pourquoi emmènes-tu la boule?» lui demanda l’homme riche. Girija répondit : «Ma mère aussi a faim. Je vais la partager avec elle.» Le lendemain Girija attendit à nouveau son tour, elle prit la dernière boule et l’apporta à sa mère. Elle contenait une pièce d’or! Sa mère lui dit : «Ramène-la à l’homme riche, elle est à lui». Girija obéit aussitôt. Mais l’homme lui dit : «Garde-là. Je te l’ai mise comme récompense. Tu es patiente, génereuse et honnête.»§
