During Thai Pusam in Malaysia, large chariots like this are pulled through the city streets. Thousands of devotees follow along. This chariot in Kuala Lumpur is pulled by hand many miles to Batu Caves. மலேசியாவில் தை பூசத்தன்று இது போன்ற பெரிய தேர்கள் நகரத் தெருக்களில் பவனி வருவதுண்டு. ஆயிரக்கணக்கான பக்தர்கள் பின்தொடர்ந்து செல்வர். இந்தத் தேர் கோலாலும்பூரிலிருந்து பல மைல் தூரம் பக்தர்களால் இழுக்கப்பட்டு பத்துமலையை அடையும். Festivals are sacred, happy times. We gather with family and friends to celebrate and worship God and the Gods. We clean and decorate the home or temple, and prepare ourself, too. We dress up nicely and sometimes fast as a special penance. All this helps us come close to God and enjoy the special blessings these holy days bring. Lord Siva and each of the Gods have certain festival days during the year. On those days their power is especially strong and easy to feel. Some festivals are home celebrations. Tai Pongal is one, when we give thanks for the abundance and good things in our life. Others are big temple events, like Mahasivaratri, Siva’s Great Night, when we worship Siva all night. Two festivals honor the guru, Guru Purnima and Jayanti. Jayanti is the birthday of one’s satguru. Big temples have their own yearly festival as well. All our Saivite festivals are fun. We attend puja, sing bhajans, meditate and enjoy sweets. Each one is a little different. For Ganesha Chaturthi we make clay images of our friend, the Elephant-Faced Ganapati. During Tai Pusam, a Murugan festival, we carry kavadi as a penance. Taking part in a festival is like charging your spiritual batteries for the next few months. Afterwards you feel secure and inspired. §
விழாக்கள் புனிதமானவை, மகிழ்ச்சி தரக்கூடியவை. நாம் குடும்பத்தோடும் நண்பர்களோடும் கூடி இறைவனையும் தெய்வங்களையும் வணங்கிக் கொண்டாடுகிறோம். நாம் கோயில் அல்லது இல்லத்தைச் சுத்தம் செய்வதோடு நம்மையும் தயார்ப்படுத்திக் கொள்கிறோம். அழகான ஆடை உடுத்திக் கொள்கிறோம், சில சமயங்களில் விசேஷ நேர்த்திக்கடனுக்காக நோன்பு இருக்கிறோம். இவையாவும் இறைவனோடு நெருங்கி இருக்கச் செய்வதோடு இப்புனித நாளில் விசேஷமாக இறைவனின் ஆசியும் கிடைக்கச் செய்கிறது இவ்விழாக்கள். ஆண்டுதோறும் சிவபெருமானுக்கு மற்றும் ஒவ்வொரு தெய்வத்துக்கும் தனித்தனி விழாக்கள் உண்டு. அந்நாள்களில் தெய்வ சக்தி மிகுதியாக இருப்பதோடு எளிதாக அவற்றை உணரமுடியும். சில விழாக்கள் வீட்டில் நடைபெறக் கூடியவை. அவற்றில் தை பொங்கல் ஒன்றாகும். மிகுதியான செல்வத்துக்கும் நம் வாழ்க்கையில் நல்லவை ஏற்பட்டதற்கும் நன்றி செலுத்தும் விழாவாகும். மற்றவை பெரிய அளவில் நடைபெறும் கோயில் விழாக்களாகும். இரவு முழுதும் சிவபெருமானை வழிபாடு செய்யும் சிவபெருமானின் மகா இரவு எனப்படும் மகா சிவராத்திரி ஒன்றாகும். இரண்டு விழாக்கள் குருவுக்கு மரியாதை செய்யக்கூடிவையாகும். அவை குரு பூர்ணிமாவும் குரு ஜெயந்தியுமாகும். சற்குருவின் பிறந்த நாளை குரு ஜெயந்தி எனப்படும். பெரிய கோயில்களுக்குத் தனித்தனி வருடாந்திர விழாக்கள் மகிழ்ச்சி மிகுந்தன. முதலியவற்றில் பங்கேற்கிறோம். சுவையான இனிப்புப் பலகாரம் சாப்பிடுகிறோம். ஒவ்வொரு விழாவும் வெவ்வேறானது. கணேச சதுர்த்திக்குக் களிமண்ணால் நமது நண்பன் கணபதியைச் செய்கிறோம். முருகனுக்குரிய விழாவான தை பூசத்துக்கு நேர்த்திக்கடனுக்காகக் காவடி எடுக்கிறோம். விழாக்களில் கலந்து கொள்வதென்பது அடுத்த சில மாதங்களுக்கு மின்கலனை (பேட்டரியை) மின் ஏற்றம் (சார்ஜ்) செய்வது போலாகும். அதன் பின்னர் நீங்கள் பாதுகாப்பாகவும் புத்துயிர் பெற்றவர்களாகவும் திகழ்வீர்கள். §
Perayaan adalah detik-detik suci dan riang. Kita berkumpul bersama keluarga dan kawan-kawan untuk merayakan dan memuja Tuhan dan Tuhan-Tuhan. Kita membersih dan menghias rumah atau kuil. Kita juga menyediakan diri kita. Kita memakai pakaian yang cantik dan adakalanya berpuasa sebagai penebusan dosa. Semua ini akan merapatkan lagi diri kita dengan Tuhan dan menikmati rahmat istimewa pada hari yang mulia ini. Tuhan Siva dan setiap Tuhan mempunyai hari perayaan tertentu sepanjang tahun. Pada hari tersebut rahmat tuhan adalah lebih kuat dan mudah dirasai. Ada perayaan yang dirayakan di rumah. Thai Ponggal misalnya, adalah tanda kesyukuran untuk hasil tuai dan semua kebaikan yang berlaku dalam hidup kita. Lain-lain perayaan besar pula dirayakan di kuil, misalnya Mahasivaratri, Malam Agung Siva. Ia adalah malam di mana kita memuja Tuhan Siva sepanjang malam. Terdapat dua perayaan yang disambut untuk menghormati guru iaitu Guru Purnima dan Jayanti. Guru Jayanti adalah harijadi satguru seseorang. Kuil-kuil yang besar mempunyai perayaan tahunan masing-masing. Semua perayaan Saivite kita amat menyeronokkan. Kita menghadiri puja, menyanyi bhajan, bertafakur dan menikmati manisan. Setiap satu perayaan mempunyai perbezaan yang kecil. Semasa perayaan Ganesha Chaturthi, kita membuat rupa bentuk kawan kita, Ganesha (Ganapathi Bermuka Gajah) daripada tanah liat. Manakala semasa Thaipusam iaitu perayaan Murugan, kita membawa kavadi sebagai penebusan dosa. Menyertai perayaan adalah umpama mengecas bateri rohani untuk beberapa bulan akan datang. Selepas itu anda akan berasa selamat dan lebih bertenaga.§
Chaque fête est pour nous une occasion sacrée, et un moment de bonheur. Nous nous réunissons en famille et avec nos amis pour nous réjouir et pour adorer Dieu et les Dieux. Nous nettoyons et décorons la maison ou le temple, tout en nous pré-parant aussi nous-mêmes. Nous mettons de beaux vêtements, parfois nous jeûnons pour l’occasion, en signe de pénitence. Tout cela nous aide à nous rapprocher de Dieu et à profiter des bénédictions particulières que nous apportent ces jours saints. Le seigneur Siva et tous les Dieux ont leurs jours de fête annuelle. Ces jours-là, leur pouvoir et particulièrement fort et facile à ressentir. Certaines fêtes se célèbrent à la maison. C’est le cas de Tai Pongal, qui est l’occasion de remercier pour l’abondance et toutes les bonnes choses de notre vie. D’autres fêtes sont de grands événements qui se passent au temple, comme Mahasivaratri, la grande nuit de Siva. A cette occasion nous adorons Siva toute la nuit. Il y a deux fêtes en l’honneur du guru, Guru Purnima et Jayanti. Le jour de Jayanti on fête l’anniversaire de son satguru. Les grands temples ont aussi leur fête annuelle. Toutes nos fêtes sivaïtes sont des occasions de réjouissance. On participe à la puja, on chante des bhajans, on médite, on partage des friandises. Chaque occasion a ses différences. Pour Ganesha Chaturthi nous faisons des représentations en argile de notre ami à tête d’éléphant, Ganapati. A Taï Pousam, la fête de Murugan, nous portons un kavadi en signe de pénitence. Participer aux fêtes, c’est recharger ses batteries spirituelles pour les mois à venir. On se sent ensuite protégé et inspiré. §

This is the Grand Bassin lake in Mauritius. Hindus visit here to worship Lord Siva during Mahasivaratri. The water is pure and holy. இது மாரிசியஸிலுள்ள கிராண்ட் பேசின் ஏரி. மகா சிவராத்திரியின்போது இந்துக்கள் சிவபெருமானை வழிபட இங்கே வருவார்கள். இங்குள்ள நீர் தூய்மையும் புனிதமும் கொண்டது.
