Great minds think alike. Listen to this quote from Albert Einstein. How amazingly close it is to our Saiva philosophy:

“A human being is a part of the whole, called by us Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest- a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole nature in its beauty.”

As Gurudeva said:

“First come to learn to love birds, then fish, then animals, then your fellow human beings, only in this way can you come to realize the Self.”

Our Sun One Homa blazed and danced, as if to punch a hole through into the inner worlds, through which floods the bliss of Siva’s Shakti.

The outer mind is filled with an inner brilliance.

And the inner mind sours through the microcosm within to enter a new and greater macrocosm.

Bodhinatha reverently prepares to make the final offering.

Yagna, the Vedic word for “sacrifice” has a potent meaning on many levels. Somehow, as we offer our grains and clarified butter back to the elemental space from whence they came, through the messenger of Agni, the Fire, a new balance is once again established both within our hearts, within the mind and within the surroundings.

Merrily rushing through the San Marga land our canal of water from the reservoir to the north seems to anticipate with great excitement its merger with the greater Wailua River and from there into the great Pacific, the Ocean of Peace.

In a land of often over-powering humidity, these little cacti from the Land of Dry, provide an almost comic presence — small creatures bristling with microscopically sharp protection. On close inspection their incredibly formal, exquisite design grants the eye an intriguing respite from the array of wild growth around us.

After all the finishing and carving of stone in Bangalore, there is still much to be done to each one after it arrives. Here the whole team places a stone to test the fit.

Stapathi will now indicate what portions of the stone may need yet a little more carving to create a “paper joint” between the stones. i.e. a joint that is so nearly perfect you cannot even put a piece of paper between the stones.

It is wonderful see this course… in a few days we will be moving sand in and it will all disappear until next year when the sanctum is finished.

Back to another area of the Aadheenam property, we wanted to show you all our fantastic “Anna Poorna Garden” Anna Poorna is the name of the Goddess, who is the “Fullness of Food” and is worshipped, most especially at the famed Siva temples in Varanasi.

Due to the wet weather our garden soil is often “soggy” and for most plants drainage is very important. Add to this that we lose a great deal of organic matter from heavy rains Yoginathaswami has decided to convert the entire garden into raised beds. It’s a very big job.

We begin by forming up a large rectangle about 5 feet wide and 12-18 feet long. It should be just narrow enough that you can reach all the way to the center from either side. This allows planting and harvesting without ever stepping on the bed itself…thus preventing compaction of the soil.

After pouring the concrete, the forms are removed and the hard work begins.

Double digging! It’s the favorite exercise for some of the monks. You must remove one foot of soil and set it to the side. Sometimes we find solid clay, the result of the former use of a tractor and the nature of our Kauai soil.

Then, you cultivate the soil below, breaking it up for a depth of another foot… and return the top soil back to the top. Thus giving a two foot depth of loose cultivated soil.

On top you take some well composted mulch and dig this in and plant. Then cover the top of the soil with more mulch. Wow! These vegetables love it! Oh Yes!

It has turned out to be a grand success as we are now getting 2-4 times the production of vegetables from the same area. The worms do the cultivation, the boxes allow for drainage while retaining soil during intense tropical rains. It is a lot of work, but if you were to go to town to purchase vegetables for 24 hungry souls, it would cost a fortune. And, we are assured of perfectly pure produce.
