Gurudeva's Statement -- Attack on America

From the songs of Yogaswami:

SARVA JNANI, MY JNANA-GURU

"Have you known my Jnana Guru? He is my beloved who has given me the support of the Mulamantra AUM, and in compassion he has taken his place in my heart."

He would wander in the precincts of Nallur with a cheerful countenance, but to no house would he frequent for his meals; he disliked hypocrisy. Austere in habits and clad in simple attire, he was able to eradicate my vices,

What wonder!

In renunciation, he was exemplary: his heart overwhelmed with the love of God, ever refulgent and immaculately pure, he enslaved me.

Today's Sun One Homa... the temple was over-flowing with pilgrims.

The final offerings...

The group listens intently to the words of Paramacharya Bodhinathaswami

Meanwhile this news flash arrived from Belief Net giving mention of a book in which Gurudeva's writings will appear:

=========
Beliefnet and Rodale have co-published "From the Ashes: A Spiritual Response to the Attacks on America," released October 15. The book's profits will go to the NYC Bravest Scholarship Fund, for educating firefighters' children. "From the Ashes" offers perspectives on the attacks from a spectrum of spiritual and inspirational leaders, including Pope John Paul, the Dalai Lama, Rabbi Joseph Telushkin, Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswamimi, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the Rev. Billy Graham.

Paramacharya spoke about the special day we are having ... which is "Ayudya Puja" day... the day when the silpis bless their tools. He had been to several of these events in India and they are always a joyous event.

The long parade of devotees speak of the future of Iraivan when pilgrims will be coming from all over to the "place where the world comes to pray."

From a distance we are beginning to see the central sanctum take on some height as Course Five is almost complete.

The silpis perform the rites themselves...Sundaram Achari does the puja

They first perform a puja for Gurudeva and include "Merging with Siva" among the 'implements."

Arati

Next there is a ceremony to bless the forge where the chisels are sharpened. Acharya Ceyonswami participates.

Yogaswami sang:

THE SAT-GURU SPEAKS Oh come, all you faithful! And reflect on these living words, That God is One and world too is One. Joyful you become with the earth too rejoicing. This goal of excellence seek with discernment, For you are not earthy but the pleroma of wisdom. Thy inexpressible greatness, who can extol?

Know that fire cannot consume you, Neither can the love-laden zephyr oppress you, Nor the gloom of earth, or ether afflict you. The rippling waters pierce not their chill on you. You are undying, eternal! Let unalloyed bliss Fill the interstices of your heart. You who've overcome the bias of caste and creed, Be established in the dharma of Justice. And be not lured by sense perceptions false.

Never will you be exposed to any peril whatsoever, But be aware of your duty and do it well. The felicity of realisation is yours as ever, And the world lies within the clasp of your hand. Let there be no iota of doubt in what I say: Reflect! The SatGuru is your sole Refuge, While you remain a mere spectator. The wondrous twin Feet, for ever Hail!

The silpis prepare a special stone for all to chip.

Everyone present lined up and took turns with the hammer and chisel to chip a little stone. First the stone is decorated with Sandalwood paste.

Ceyonswami applies kumkum.

A close up of the white granite being used for the temple. It is amazing stone in that it is so full of shiny crystals.

Paramacharya Bodhinatha gives a small gift to each of the silpis

Shanmuga Stapathi gave us all an introduction to the event and about how each year they honor their tools that serve them so well and rededicate themselves to the project and capture the initial inspiration that started the project.

Title: Caution and Commitment to One Path
Category: The Spiritual Path
Duration: 3 min., 25 seconds
Date Given: April 20, 1999

Today at Kauai Aadheenam, April 20 1999. Greetings everyone in cyberspace. Nice to be with you today and we are wondering how you are.

A question came in about the New Age books, that are out there saying, "... jump right in into this meditation and chant and ...", without any warnings of what can happen.

Every new thing should be approached slowly. There is an old saying, "Fools rush in, where angels fear to tread." That means when you rush into something, just because someone wants to sell a book, be careful.

In meditation and in chanting, you stimulate the inner mind and what it is in the inner mind, the emotions and the memories blocked in, may come up and consume you. That is, if you have had a divorce or an abusive relationship with your family, or abusive relationships with a spouse, they have been packed away in memory patterns. Emotions have been attached to those memory patterns. As soon as you start to meditate, you open up that subconscious mind and relive those experiences.

This has happened to many people and they have given up meditation. They have given up chanting. But, they haven't given up reading New Age books, and other books too investigating all the paths, taking a little bit here, and a little bit there, but not, going too deeply because they don't want to open the door to that big, old subconscious mind, with all those ugly, hurtful memory patterns.

Therefore, caution on the spiritual path is good. Any mature guide on the spiritual path, will admonish, to go slowly. Don't try to get to the end of the path, before one begins at the beginning of the path. The beginning of the path is sincere commitment.

One big problem with the New Age is that they are absolutely committed to not being committed at all. There are many paths up the mountain, but the New Age path, as it is today, is a path around the mountain, looking at all the paths that are going up the mountain, trying a little bit here and a little bit there, running up one and down, walking around the mountain, running up another and down, walking around the mountain and on and on and on.

Sincere commitment toward one path, is a lifetime commitment. Follow that path, over the rocks and the boulders, and getting wet by the waterfalls of that mountain, until you get to the top. I hope that answers this question. And, now we are going to move into our other languages - the beautiful Tamil language and the French language and the Malay.

Aum Namah Sivaya.

Due to the horrific tragedies of September 11th, Himalayan Academy has indefinitely postponed the Canadian Innersearch scheduled to leave next July. Please be assured, we will re-schedule the Innersearch, but only when the present insecurity around the world settles down.
