Gurudeva talks about the evolution of the soul in Merging with Siva:

"If you would like to know how it came along, for instance if you had ninety lives on this planet, each life the body of light matured one year. So your body of light would be ninety years old, so to speak. You can look at it that way. That's not quite the way it actually is, but looking at it that way gives you an idea of the maturing of this body of light. The pure intelligence of it is your awareness--which is energy and which is willpower--that life after life becomes stronger, more steadfast. Finally, in your last incarnation on the Earth, you merge into its final experience, that great samadhi, the Self, beyond the complete, still area of consciousness. You go in not knowing what you are getting into, and you come out wise. Your complete perspective is changed, and you only talk about it to those that are on the path of enlightenment, as they are the only ones steady enough or free enough to understand the depth of this realization. "

We had two wonderful families visit today, both were subscribers to Hinduism Today. Here is Dr. and Mrs. Subash and Sushama Paralikar from Galesbury, Illinois. Sadhaka Thondunatha took them to San Marga. Here they are at the outdoor Swayambhu Lingam. (Self Born Lingam) It was in 1975 that Gurudeva had his vision of Lord Siva walking on this land and then sitting on the stone that is in the lower right hand corner, pointing to the larger rock. That morning he called the monks, "Bring a machete and call a bull-dozer, we are going into the jungle to find the place that Siva showed to me!" Beginning from the highway he himself cut his way through a dense old overgrown guava orchard, walking straight toward the south for nearly one third of a mile. It was a windless day, but a small tree was shaking oddly. Gurudeva asked the little tree if it had a message for him. The tree gave Gurudeva the impulse to turn to his right and there he found these stones covered in tall grass. The path he cut turned out to be nearly a perfect North-South road, which became known as San Marga.... the Straight Path to God which was mentioned in the ancient Tamil scripture of Tirumular, 2000 years ago. This outdoor shrine will be preserved as it is, while the Iraivan Temple is being built nearby, more toward the center of the land.

This is Siva Sivajnanaguru and his wife Indranee. They are from Sri Lanka. Siva works for the US government and has been in the US for 20 years. Siva and his wife have not seen a palmyra tree (the palm like tree in the background) for a long time and were thrilled to see the young trees planted near the Svayambhu Lingam. The trees are common in Sri Lanka and used to make many things.

In Jaffna they use every part of the palmyra tree, including the roots. The leaves were used as a paper for writing on to make little books (ola leaf), also for mats, fans and baskets. The main tree is used as a wood source for making houses, the sap for jaggary (sugar) and toddy (an alcohol) and the roots for firewood.

Greetings, everyone in cyberspace. It is very nice you have visited our cyberspace ashram. Welcome, welcome!

We have just completed a two-day retreat, reflecting on the past and projecting a new future for ourselves.

The African Parliament of World Religions contacted us with a very beautiful invitation to be a delegate in their Parliament.
December 1st through 8th, 1999. It is in Cape Town, South Africa. We are waiting to hear from them again, probably on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

A beautiful fire puja today again, invoking the foundation for Iraivan Temple, getting the energy up in everyone. Feel it? A wonderful energy is coming and flowing through each and every one of us to build the foundation that is going to last over a thousand years. In India, I have been to stone temples that were more than a thousand years old. One was two thousand years old and looked in very good condition.

Our local agriculturist Ray Mackey came by with a beautiful gift for the ashram. A very special construction bamboo. He planted some and left the others for us to plant. We appreciate this, Ray, very very much.

I'm going to read just a little bit of it now. It explains who Lord Siva is. "Siva dances in the atoms throughout the universe. Siva dances energetically, eternally. Siva is eternal movement. His mind is all pervasive, and thus He sees and knows everything in all spheres simultaneously and without effort. Siva is the Self and He is the energy we put forth to know the Self. He is the mystery which makes us see Him as separate from us. He is the energy of life, the power of the wind. He is the dissolution called death, the peace of motionless air. He is the great force of the ocean and the stillness on a calm lake. Siva is all in all. Our great God Siva is beyond time, beyond space, beyond form and form's creation and yet, He uses time and causes form. He is in the sky, in the clouds, in the swirling galaxies. Siva's cosmic dance of creation, preservation, and dissolution is happening this very moment in every atom of the cosmos. God Siva is immanent with a beautiful human-like form which can actually be seen. It has been seen by many mystics in visions. To get to know God Siva, is to get to know something more about yourself. Because there is one thing, and one thing only that Siva cannot do with all of His great power. He cannot take Himself out of you. Because the energy in your body comes from God Siva. He can't remove the energy from the body of your soul, and you are a soul. A perfect soul living in a physical body and astral body and a mental body, These are your tools to unfold the soul as it grows and grows and grows in the evolutionary pattern of soul life. That is why we keep coming back in a physical body to have all of the experiences that life on this planet has to offer. Who Knows? Maybe we go to another planet after that, who knows? But the soul is more than umbilically connected to Siva. The soul is an ever-flowing part of Siva. With this new identity of yourself, you can face all of life's challenges as if you were walking through the rain without getting wet."
