Gurudeva's Statement -- Attack on America

A wonderful Hindu couple from Kashmir came to visit today. Bhushan and Vijiya Bhan are on a tour of the Hawaiian islands and mainland US. They live in Lucknow, near New Delhi. They formerly lived in Kashmir, not far from the famous Amarnath ice lingam cave shrine.

We experienced a very powerful morning Sun One homa today. One could feel as if a shaft of inner light was opening between this world and the inner worlds as the rites and chanting progressed. Here Natyam Tyaganatha makes the final ghee offering.

While he makes the finally offering, the assistant pujari lights the arati lamp.

Our guests went to visit the temple site... Mr. and Mrs. Bhan were joined by Mr. and Mrs. Trent Smail and his wife Shirley (left) from San Diego. They were in bliss as they witnessed the Iraivan Temple carving and saw rudraksha trees for the first time.

We took them for a tour of the Path of the Saivite Saints. On the path is a giant outdoor Sivalingam, which, following in the tradition of North India, can be bathed by any devotee whether he is a priest or not. This giant Sivalingam is a "Narmada" Lingam from the Narmada river in India. Sivalinga is defined as follows in our lexicon:

"The Sivalinga was the first image of Divinity. After it all other icons evolved from mystic visions. We contemplate God Siva as Parasiva when we worship the Sivalinga. Its simple elliptical shape speaks silently of God's unspeakable Absolute Being."

Trent is taking a week's retreat and came to Kauai mainly to visit the monastery. Shirley was here last week with a ladies spiritual group she had brought. They are avid readers of Hinduism Today magazine and Gurudeva's Master Course trilogy.

Mrs. Vijaya Bhan offers her devotions. The water is drawn from our nearby stream... The bliss of Siva Abhishekam is only known by those who have witnessed or performed this ancient, simple, yet powerful rite.

We gave the group a grand tour of the press shop. Here they are learning about the editorial production of Hinduism Today from our editorial team.

Title: Good Money, Bad Money
Category: Good Conduct
Duration: 2 min., 35 seconds
Date Given: July 07, 2001

Acharya Palaniswami: Does good and bad pertain to the actual physical bill itself? If that actual bill was ever used previously in dealings, then that bill should not be used and is dirty forever or whether it is something else. To me it seems that money has no consciousness and accepting money is an awareness issue. In such cases, is ignorance excusable?

For example, if I receive bad money and I don't know about it. Is it just the bad deeds that should not be condoned and not the money itself? I feel that any and all money gained through exploitation is, of course, cursed but maybe I am naive. I am seeking your help in prayer and meditation. Donald Gilbert.

Gurudeva: Well, that is a very good question about bad money, good money.

There are two kinds of bad money. One kind is the kind that is actually associated with the deed itself. That is why they have to launder money, such as drug money, so it cannot be traced. Another kind of bad money is a little more esoteric. It has to do with the actions of the individual, rather than the actual physical money itself. Such as an abortionist, who earned money in that way. That would be very bad money and to spend it on any good thing, the good thing would not work out properly. It would produce confusion, asuric forces, unhappiness and considerable loss, in the minds of all the people, as they tuned into that person. An individual could receive bad money without knowing it and it would have an effect of loss. Even to an organization such as ours, bad money comes unknowingly. We have found that we also lose at the other end.

So, to distinguish bad money from good money, you have to look to the source of how the money was obtained. Money obtained thorough legitimate means is good money. Money obtained through illegitimate means is bad money.

Innersearch postponed

Due to the horrific tragedies of September 11th, Himalayan Academy has indefinitely postponed the Canadian Innersearch scheduled to leave next July. Please be assured, we will re-schedule the Innersearch, but only when the present insecurity around the world settles down.
