When to visit?
The front monastery area, including Kadavul temple, is open daily from 9am to noon. Please come early. All those who have not made advance arrangements to be here on a pilgrimage are required to depart by twelve noon.
Hindus may attend the daily 9am Siva puja in Kadavul temple. It lasts about 1.5 hours. After the puja, if Hindu guests wish to see the under-construction Iraivan Temple and additional monastery grounds, a local devotee may be available to show you out, or you can request a self-guided tour map from the priest. These further areas are accessible before or after the monastic retreat days, described below.
For members of the Hindu religion who contact us in advance, they may have access during other hours, by officially arranging their stay as pilgrims. Please be sure to identify yourself on arrival to our hosts, saying "I have come on a pilgrimage, my name is... can you please inform the temple staff?"
Monastic Retreat Days
Please note that our monastery follows the traditional lunar calendar, panchangam. The table below shows dates when the monastery grounds beyond the front area are closed, including Iraivan Temple. The highlighted dates are known as "monastic retreat days," or days off. Hindus should plan their visit to avoid these monastic retreat days, if possible. Bodhinatha and the monks are not available to meet with guests on these days.
These retreat days are good ones for pilgrims to use to schedule their Kauai outings -- Napali Coast boat tours, trips to Waimea Canyon, beach day with the family etc. and plan to come to the temple on the days that do not appear in the list below.
