When Kids Embrace Hinduism

Bodhinatha's presentation is based on the Apr/May/Jun 2011 Hinduism Today edition and is entitled "When Kids Embrace Hinduism". Rules restrict what we can do in life and we must aim to transform these rules into tools by explaining to children the process, purpose and benefits of Hindu practices. Three main practices are discussed namely vegetarianism, temple worship and choice of music. When children ask why we need to be vegetarian, attend temple and avoid hip hop music, parents must explain the purpose and benefits of vegetarianism, temple worship and how music influence our consciousness or state of mind. By understanding the importance and benefits of Hindu practices children knowingl embrace their religion. For best results in passing on your faith, present concepts as life-enhancing tools rather than life-restricting rules.

To the Saivite Hindu, all of life is sacred. All of life is religion. Thus, Saivite art is sacred art, Saivite music is devotional music, and the Saivite's business is not only his livelihood, it is his service to man and God.
