Long Term and Short Term Goals

Today Gurudeva talks about long term and short term goals. He explains how we don't spend enough time planing either kind of goal today.

Unedited Transcript:

Today at Kauai Aadheenam, March 14th. Greetings to each and everyone in cyberspace!

A question came up about long term and short term goals. What are they?

We have to plan out our karma that we make in this life. Hopefully, it will all be good karma. Therefore, we need short term goals and we need long term goals. Many people are pushed into various professions by their family. They are not suited to the profession. They graduate and they ask themselves, "What do I do next? Do I get a job near my family home or do I go to a far off country and seek employment?" All those long term goals with an education should be planned out ahead of graduation, because you have one life. You have to take care of it.

Either a short or a long span of years, you have to make the best use out of your time, during the time that you are awake. They say, in a life-span you sleep twenty to thirty years. So during those waking hours it is very essential to have goals. Short term goals means, like a month or a year ahead. Long term goals are like five or ten years ahead, a lifetime.

In the United States, before the First or Second World War, everyone knew what they were going to do for the rest of their life, by the time they were eighteen or nineteen years of age. They went ahead and lived out their life. Society was stable, society was strong and there were few problems. Now, the mind seems to be confused for the young people and old people alike. Too much television, too much input. Not enough planning, not enough talking, not enough camaraderie to sit down and plan out what you are going to do this year, next year, the year after, and the year after that.

That is how you keep your karma under control, with short term goals and long term goals planned out according to dharma.

We hope this answers that question. If it hasn't, we can go at it again tomorrow. Have a very beautiful day everybody in cyberspace! It is very, very wonderful that you keep tuning into 'Today at Kauai Aadheenam', and it is a joy for us to talk with you, and be one with your mind and spirit.

Aum Namah Sivaya!

Remember, when the seal is broken and clear white light has flooded the mind, there is no more a gap between the inner and the outer. Even uncomplimentary states of consciousness can be dissolved through meditation and seeking again the light.
