"There is another way to show remorse for misdeeds. That is by performing seva, religious service, for persons you have wronged. Give them gifts, cook them food.

Mauritius organized its first Youth Retreat for the youth of Saiva Siddhanta Church on the 10th to 11th December 2011 at the Blue House at Trou D'eau Douce, on the east coast of the island. The weather was splendid. The main theme of the retreat was on Bodhinatha's newly released Character Building Workbook. Youth participants came forward to present and explain the Character Qualities therein. They also had much fun activities and learned a lot of good things from this retreat. On the last day of the visit to Mauritius, Nov 23, Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami speaks to Saiva Siddhanta Church sishyas and students about how our youth, especially in Asia where the educational system is very demanding, often don't have time in their school years to join the parents for an hour of sadhana in the morning. We need to create more practices for youth to spiritualize their daily life which only take a few minutes. This is a fulfillment of our late Gurudeva's statement that Hinduism needs to continuously adapt to modern circumstances. He mentions the next book for youth which will be about Lord Ganesha and developing a relationship through keeping a small image of Ganesha in the youth's bedroom.

Inspired Talk: Title: Niyama Ten: Tapas
Category: Soul Duration: 15 min, 4 secs
Date Given: 2012-01-11
Given by: Bodhinatha
Description:
Tapas is to practice austerity, serious disciplines, penance and sacrifice which increases the speed at which we are moving forward on the spiritual path. Daily sadhanas and penance to atone for misdeeds are obligatory. Austerities, assigned and overseen by a guru, give a great sense of release from the past, a profounder understanding of the path and deepening of one's worship and meditation. Meditation on Ishana and Tatpurusha: veiling and revealing grace. All along we are Siva and finally that dawns on us.
